Mohamed Salah attended a public session at Liverpool’s training ground on Tuesday night ahead of his side’s Champions League clash with Inter Milan. The team was scheduled to train at 11:45 a.m., but it was unclear whether Salah would take part. However, he was spotted on the grass with other teammates.
The veteran winger was left on the bench for three consecutive Premier League games last weekend, with Slott opting to keep him on as an unused substitute against Leeds United. A similar situation occurred in last weekend’s win against West Ham United. Salah did not feature the previous day but appeared at Liverpool’s training ground on Sunday.
He was then pictured returning to the AXA training center to take part in Monday’s session, as Liverpool ramp up preparations for Tuesday’s game against Inter Milan.
Salah, who has played just 45 minutes in the last three games, is furious at his current situation and vented his frustrations in a candid interview in the mixed zone at Elland Road.
“I don’t know what to say,” Salah said. “It’s kind of funny, I couldn’t believe it. It’s a disappointing result for the team. We conceded a stupid goal. I was on the bench so I couldn’t help my teammates.”
“I couldn’t believe I was sitting on the bench for 90 minutes. It’s the third time this has happened. I think it’s the first time in my career. I’m very disappointed. I’ve done a lot for this club over the years, especially last season, and it feels like the club has thrown me under the bus.”
“That’s how I feel. Someone is trying to put all the blame on me. The club promised me a lot in the summer and now that I’m on the bench I can say they haven’t kept their promises.”
“I used to have a good relationship[with Slott]. Now we have nothing to do and I don’t know why. It seems[someone]doesn’t want me at the club. I called my dad and mom and told them to come to the Brighton game.”
“It doesn’t matter whether I play or not. I’m going to enjoy it. I’m just going to Anfield before the Africa Cup of Nations and saying goodbye to the fans because you never know what’s going to happen when you’re there.”
“I don’t accept that being fair. If I were anywhere else, every club would protect their players. Now it’s ‘Throw Mo under the bus because there’s a problem within the team.’
“I don’t think it’s a problem. I don’t fight for a position every day just because I’ve earned it. I’m not bigger than the club, I’m not better than anything. But I earned it.”
