Manchester United Under-18s celebrated a 2-0 win against Newcastle at Carrington on Saturday as Jaycee Carrick, son of former United midfielder Michael Carrick, made his debut at this level. The left-footed midfielder previously represented England Under-15s and is highly regarded within United’s academy.
Jaycee previously played alongside Kai Rooney for United’s Under-16s in Northern Ireland’s prestigious youth tournament, the Super Cup NI. He has continued to progress this season and has already won national titles at U-14 and U-15 level, playing a pivotal role in both victories.
He was brought on with 20 minutes remaining against Newcastle in place of in-form 15-year-old striker J.J. Gabriel. But this time it wasn’t Barcelona’s target that scored Darren Fletcher’s side.
With the score still 0-0 at half-time, 15-year-old forward Duka Nkoto came on as a substitute and put in a great performance, scoring two goals and scoring his first goal at Under-18 level.
Nkoto’s first goal came from close range after some solid build-up play from Godwill Kukonki. The centre-back also contributed to Nkoto’s second goal, extending United’s lead to two points.
He capped an impressive performance by scoring his first assist for the Under-18s, setting up 16-year-old Noah Ajayi to lead United to their second successive win. With this victory, the team moved up to fourth place in the U-18 Premier League standings.
