Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has been outspoken in his criticism of Mohamed Salah and criticized by Sam Allardyce for his views on the Reds winger.
Jamie Carragher’s recent comments about Mohamed Salah have been branded “pathetic” by former Premier League manager Sam Allardyce.
Former Liverpool favorite Carragher recently suggested Salah’s “legs are gone” after the Egyptian international failed to repeat his stellar performances from the 2024-25 season. The 33-year-old was left on the bench against West Ham at the weekend and his four goals and two assists in 12 league appearances fell short of his high standards.
Salah signed a new contract at Anfield earlier this year, but Carragher has now expressed concerns. The player-turned-pundit also admitted that he does not believe Virgil van Dijk is “the same player” and that Alisson is “quite injured at the moment”.
Allardyce vehemently rejected Carragher’s interpretation, believing the former defender was seeking popularity and branding the Sky Sports pundit’s claims “disgraceful”.

“Stop it. He should know better. He really should know better. It’s an absolutely pathetic remark, but he’s good at those things, isn’t he?” Allardyce slammed on the Footy Accumulators No Tippy Tappy Football podcast, in partnership with BOYLE Sports.
“He’s very good at putting it out there a little bit for the sake of ‘popularity’, to keep himself at the forefront of that popularity. It’s shameful.
“His foot hasn’t healed yet. How is his foot going to recover this year from what it was like last year when he had the summer off? How does that happen? It’s not going to happen overnight.
“How does he know anyway? What does he know? He doesn’t train with us, he doesn’t watch us practice, he watches us play, he may not be doing very well but it’s the same as a lot of Liverpool players. Isak isn’t playing well, has his foot gone bad already?”
Former Manchester United ace Wes Brown doesn’t think Salah should be sacked. “Salah is more comfortable when Liverpool are doing well. Salah’s attributes remain the same. He is as dangerous with the ball as always,” he said.
“In any case, he hasn’t really done the whole running back thing. At the same time, Liverpool aren’t playing well as a team, so we’re not getting the same possession and space up front as we used to. Everyone doesn’t know everyone yet and it shows.”
“Salah is not receiving the right balls at the right time or is receiving fewer balls, but it is not correct to say that he lacks quality.”
