Arsenal endured a tough time against Chelsea but were unable to extend their lead in the Premier League, and Victor Gokeres’ performance against the Blues is attracting attention.
Arsenal striker Victor Gokeres was accused of being “too nice” in the draw with Chelsea. The Gunners failed to take advantage of the Blues being down to 10 men at Stamford Bridge.
With Mikel Merino on the scoresheet, Mikel Arteta’s side needed to come from behind to grab a point. The Spaniard requested Goqueres’ services from the bench, but the Swede could not find a way past Robert Sanchez in west London.
When signing in the summer, some onlookers were irritated when one ball seemed destined for his head and into the net. Neither was found, as the stretched Julian Timber could only flick the ball past his teammates.
Former Arsenal stars Ian Wright and Theo Walcott believe Joekeles should have dominated that area to leave the Dutchman in doubt. Walcott believes questions should have been asked of the Gunners star and Timber was out of place.
“That’s when you get desperate towards the end of the game and you want to send your body forward a lot,” Walcott told Sky Sports.

“But if a right-back were in this position, if I was a goker here, I would ask questions and always think, look, this is my space, this is why I’m on the pitch.
“But look, he’s been doing that all season and he’s going to be disappointed. Gokeres definitely would have said that, but it’s just frustrating when a player is out of position, but I understand why Arsenal spent so many bodies.”
“Sometimes I think Gokeres are too kind.”
On the other hand, Wright says he would be devastated if he were in Gyokeres’ position. The Arsenal icon believes Gokeres should have made his case to make Timber’s decision clear.
“I think it’s goofy… If this were me, I’d be screaming so loud that the person in front of me would fall off (midway through),” Wright told Premier League Productions.
“That’s what I’ve always been told, you have to be loud and let them know you’re coming, because then Timber will move his head and Gokeres will come in and get a clean header.
“Then I would be devastated. He has to let him know, Victor Gokeres has to let Julian Timber know, ‘I’m going,’ because that would be a huge missed opportunity.”
