Manchester United and Chelsea face a transfer battle for the next up-and-coming wonderkid, who impressed for Brazil Under-17s at the World Cup.
Manchester United are reportedly eyeing one of Brazil’s most exciting defenders, Luis Eduardo. The 17-year-old wonderkid caught the eye of some of Europe’s top clubs after last month’s Under-17 World Cup.
Eduardo represented Brazil in Qatar and was one of the players frequently scouted throughout the tournament. The South American nation finished fourth in the World Cup, losing on penalties to Portugal in the semi-finals.
Spanish media outlet AS claimed that Eduardo’s performance has seen him emerge as one of the standout players. The Brazilian captain’s breakneck pace has put clubs, including United, in a state of emergency.

According to reports, Eduardo reached speeds of 38km/h in the Gremio U20 earlier this year. AS reported that both United and Chelsea have “already done their homework and are looking to accelerate their pursuit”.
Additionally, both teams are reportedly already in talks with Gremio during the U-17 World Cup, with an offer expected to arrive within the next few weeks. However, it can come at a high cost.

In the summer, the centre-back signed a new contract with the Brazilian side until 2028. A £53m release clause was included as part of the extension, but it remains to be seen whether United will offer that amount.
United have focused on signing wonder kids with the aim of developing them and using them in the first team. The Reds have previously brought in Chido Obi, Sekou Kone and Diego Leon to strengthen their next generation of talent.
Ruben Amorim has also been praised for the trust he has in young players. Fifteen-year-old JJ Gabriel has already been invited to train with the first team and the wonder boy hit the headlines over the weekend.
The midfielder scored three goals in the Under-18s’ 7-0 win over Liverpool, and his fluid footwork, dribbling and finishing put him in a league of wonder for the football club. Gabriel has been training with the first team for the past few weeks and speculation about his first team debut is growing with each passing week.
Gabriel has the potential to become United’s youngest ever Premier League player. Angel Gomez (16 years and 263 days), Shola Shoretire (17 years and 19 days) and Chido Obi (17 years and 79 days) are the youngest players to appear for United in the Premier League.
He could also break Ethan Nwaneri’s Premier League record of 15 years and 181 days. Max Dauman (15 years, 235 days) is the second youngest. The teenager will turn 16 next October.
