ITV has released an update following the tragic incident in which Laura Woods collapsed live on air before England Lionesses’ game against Ghana. The station said Woods is “doing well.” Viewers were left in suspense as Woods fell towards Ian Wright and Anita Asante who tried to support her. The broadcast was quickly canceled before moving on to advertising.
Katie Shanahan intervened and continued the coverage, telling viewers that TNT Sports Champions League host Woods had “taken an illness.” The stand-in host said: “As you all know, Laura Woods was taken ill at the start of the show, but I would like to reassure you that she is in good spirits. We all send her love.”
He added, “As you may have noticed, we are without the wonderful Laura Woods. She just got sick. But she’s in really good shape, so I’m going to fill in for her belatedly.”
Woods’ fiance Adam Collard, 30, provided the latest information. “Laura is okay and with the right people. Thank you for your kind messages,” she shared on social media.
Fans watching from home witnessed the disturbing incident and sent congratulations to Woods.
One viewer commented: “Rest in peace to Laura Woods who fell ill while covering the England women’s team. I hope something like this happens anytime and God strengthens her for a good recovery.”
Another fan wrote: “I hope Laura Woods is okay. It’s never nice to see someone go down like that. Kudos to Ian Wright for acting so carefully to help her.”
Woods is a regular presenter of men’s and women’s football on both ITV and TNT, and previously worked as a radio presenter with talkSPORT and fronted Sky Sports’ coverage of the World Darts Championship.
She gave birth to her first child with former Love Island star and social media influencer Corrado in January 2025 and got engaged when she popped the question in St Ives last year.
