Patrick Dorg has had a rollercoaster first year at Manchester United after joining from Lecce, with Ruben Amorim giving a brutally honest verdict on the defender.
Ruben Amorim has admitted that Manchester United’s Patrick Dorg feels “anxious” every time he steps on the ball. The Danish defender joined Old Trafford from Lecce for £25 million in the January transfer window.
He got off to a great start with the Red Devils, but then struggled at times. Delivering his verdict on Dorg’s form, United manager Amorim said they are trying to find a solution so that Dorg can perform to his full potential.
“What I feel when I watch them train is that they perform much better than they do in games,” Amorim said, adding: “When you see him playing for the national team, he scored a great goal against Scotland, but the decisions he made under pressure were different to the decisions he was making with our team.
“So all we need to do to help them is understand the situation. I think they’re far from their best and they know that, just like me and a lot of the players on the team. I think they have a lot more to give. Let’s see this week if they can improve on that.”
Amorim also admitted that there is some obvious anxiety when Dorg receives the ball, but he expects him to become more comfortable. “He needs to be more calm and play his game. Every time Patrick touches the ball, you can feel the anxiety. I can feel it too. The anxiety.”

“And I remember the shot against Everton. It was an easier decision than the one he had to make when the Scotland players were there. He made a great decision.”
“And we saw that when he played in Italy. But it’s different here too. Sometimes the pressure is difficult for them at first, but he has time to improve.”
Dorg has made 32 appearances in all competitions for United. He will aim to prove Amorim wrong when the Red Devils take on Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park this weekend.

Defenders must be on their best behavior when on the pitch. Dorg is one yellow card away from being suspended for one Premier League game.
If he is booked against Palace, he will miss Thursday night’s game against West Ham United. It’s also possible that he’s having an awkward conversation with his boss, Amorim.
“Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro cannot play together,” read an Instagram post criticizing the Portuguese coach’s selection decision. Dorgu’s account appears to have liked that particular post.
