Newcastle have not signed Yohan Wissa since signing him in the summer, but his wages have been paid by FIFA since the first week of October due to an injury sustained on international duty.
Newcastle have not signed him in the summer since signing Yoan Wissa, but the Magpies have seen FIFA increase his wages for the past seven weeks.
Wissa moved to St James’ Park for £55m after impressing with Brentford, but has yet to play for his new team. The striker, who scored 20 goals for the Bees last season, damaged his posterior cruciate ligament just a week after joining Newcastle while playing in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Until he makes his debut, his salary will be looked after by FIFA’s Club Protection Program (CPP). This insurance system covers the wages of players who are injured while playing for their country and are unable to play for more than 28 consecutive days. The scheme has been paying Ouissa’s wages since October 7, the Daily Mail reported.
The striker is close to returning to full fitness and trained with his team-mates for the first time this week. His road to recovery hasn’t been easy, but seeing him on the practice field was a much-needed boost for everyone involved.
However, Newcastle are in no rush to bring Ouisa back and want to ensure he is ready when he eventually makes his first appearance. As a result, his current program is similar to what players experience during preseason.

Wissa was part of Newcastle’s late-summer run, but he has been on their radar for a long time. He pushed for his departure from Brentford and got his wish on deadline day as the Magpies needed to fill the hole left by Alexander Isak’s British record move to Liverpool.
Eddie Howe lost his main right winger but finally gained the firepower he needed with the acquisition of Wissa, who arrived shortly after Nick Waltemade joined from Stuttgart. The German has been in good form since heading to St James’ Park, leading the North East’s top scorers with six goals.
Newcastle could see Ouissa be out for an even longer period of time as the Democratic Republic of the Congo turn their attention to him ahead of their African Cup of Nations campaign, which begins in mid-December. Depending on his country’s success, Ouissa could end up missing a month during a competitive season.
The Magpies have endured a mixed campaign after a summer of uncertainty. They sit 14th in the Premier League, but their win over Manchester City at the weekend underlined their quality. Their away form has been an issue, and although they lost against Marseille in midweek, they have won three out of five games and have genuine hopes of advancing to the finals.
