Kalvin Phillips shone in England’s midfield before joining Manchester City in a £50m deal in 2022, but things have gone awry since then and he is desperate to find a new home as he prepares to turn 30.
Manchester City loser Kalvin Phillips is ready to turn his back on English football to save his career. Phillips is keen to leave the Etihad in the January transfer window and find a new club.
The England midfielder has endured a nightmare since joining City from Leeds in 2022 in a £50m deal. Since his move, Phillips has started just two league games as he has fallen out of favor with manager Josep Guardiola.
Phillips then had two unsuccessful loan spells with West Ham and Ipswich Town. He returned to City in the summer and joined Guardiola’s squad for next season’s Premier League season.
However, during preseason training, he suffered a serious injury to his Achilles tendon that required surgery. He fought his way back to full fitness, but only made one appearance this season, in the League Cup win at Huddersfield.
Phillips is disillusioned with the setback in his career and believes he needs a new challenge in Europe. He turns 30 next week and knows he needs to perform at his best, not be forgotten as an elite player.

Leeds have been approached about re-signing him on loan, but the Yorkshire club want City to make a significant contribution to his £250,000-a-week wage.
It is understood that a deal is unlikely to go ahead, leaving Phillips with little choice but to consider offers from a number of clubs in France, Spain and Germany.
Phillips was a key member of the England squad that reached the 2022 Euro finals.
But his last international appearance was more than two years ago and he knows there is no chance he will be included in manager Thomas Tuchel’s squad for next summer’s World Championship. cup.
