Noni Madueke scored his first goal for Arsenal against Bayern Munich on Wednesday night and is preparing to return to Stamford Bridge on Sunday after joining from Chelsea this summer.
Noni Madueke insists fans’ petitions against Arsenal’s transfer are now a distant memory. Because the love he’s receiving from his supporters right now is what’s driving him.
The England international, who made his long-awaited return from the knee injury he suffered against Tottenham last Sunday, scored his first goal for the Gunners in Wednesday night’s Champions League win over Bayern Munich.
Madueke admits he had to show a thick skin when he first made his controversial £52m move to London from Chelsea, but he is now reaping the benefits of his brave new adventure.
Of the initial chatter surrounding his arrival, he said: “Honestly, I’m just taking all of that in its stride. That’s normal. You’re in the public eye and people can say what they want about you, but being in the stadium and how the fans there will receive me is incredible. I’m not really worried about all that. That’s in the past.”

Maduke added that he is now using the energy from the stands to take his game to the next level, adding: “Like the last game against Tottenham, it was unbelievable and that gave me a lot of strength.
“I’m playing pitch side and I can feel the fans and hear them. When they’re that positive about me, it gives me a big boost. To be honest, I’m okay with that.”
The 23-year-old is currently preparing for his return to Stamford Bridge on Sunday. He knows the reception may not be the most pleasant but is determined to make his contribution for Arsenal as they look to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League.
Maduke continued: “To be honest, it’s a different game for me. This game is not about me. This game is about Arsenal getting three more points in the league and getting closer to our goal. That’s my honest opinion.”
“It may or may not be a little hostile, but I’m a professional footballer. I’ve played in a lot of atmospheres.
“I don’t know if anything will upset me, but I just focus on the task at hand.
“That’s the most important thing. It’s about our team and trying to win games. It’s that simple.”
Maduke was in great form for club and country until he injured his knee against Manchester City in September.
England manager Thomas Tuchel visited the Emirates Stadium in midweek and his presence was positive for the winger, who feels he has something to prove ahead of next summer’s World Cup.
When asked when was the last time he had contact with the national team coach, he answered, “About three hours ago, before the game!”
“He told me he was in the stands, but to be fair, I’m probably still going to run out to see if I can get him.
“But I’m really glad he’s here. I know he’s working a lot to play as many games as possible, to see as many players as possible. I’m confident that he was here today and saw me score my first goal.”
