Arne Slott showed he’s over the edge in Liverpool’s crisis – he has to go now

Arne Slott helped the team he took over win the Premier League title last season, but now it’s been exposed and Liverpool’s owners must take action

Some people think it would be madness for Liverpool to sack Arne Slott. Because they won the Premier League title last season and were allowed to spend around £500m on new contracts in the summer.

But these are precisely two of the many reasons why Liverpool’s owners should consider a change in management now. That’s because it’s becoming abundantly clear that Slott is no longer the manager of Liverpool. He doesn’t have the answers to the problems that engulf him and his team. And it would be truly insane to leave this alone.

A team that reflects him. Unlike last season, the team that raced towards the league title was one that still had Jurgen Klopp’s fingerprints on it. Slott just made adjustments here and there, taking advantage of Manchester City’s dramatic collapse and Arsenal’s inability to keep their distance.

However, 12 months on and the current squad includes a key signing for Slot and a supposed tactic, and is in the midst of a crisis that affects every aspect of the club’s season.

Liverpool surrendered. Plain and simple. Losing 9 out of 12 games is not a temporary thing, nor is it a sign of a slump. This is proof that slots won’t work no matter what you try. This was Liverpool’s worst result since the 1953-54 season.

And Liverpool aren’t just losing games, they’re getting their butts kicked on a regular basis. Slot flops have lost a combined 10-1 in the last three games. Stunned supporters booed outside the pitch. Well, those who will still be at Anfield after the final whistle, anyway.

Coaches like Virgil van Dijk, Mo Salah and Alexis Mac Allister have been transformed into mediocre footballers who appear to lack motivation.

Florian Wirtz’s transfer fee is £116 million, but he is not fit enough to meet the demands of English football. British record signing Alexander Isak has scored just one goal in 10 games, but this came in the League Cup win over Championship side Southampton. Milos Kerkes continues to look like a rabbit in the headlights.

Exactly seven months ago this week, Liverpool defeated Tottenham by five goals to win the title. Liverpool raised the white flag before the start of December and handed the title to someone else.

With almost a month left until Christmas, slots are like turkeys that are constantly being stuffed. The Dutchman admitted he was “almost confused” by the fatigue that hit his side. But he doesn’t need to use the word “almost.” When the game goes against him, Slott is unable to influence the game from the sideline or inspire his players to react.

And this fact is more damning than anything else when it comes to slots, more than results, performance or supporter reaction.

Football has always been a results-oriented business. That is the be all and end all. And no matter what happened in the past, Slot’s humiliating failure should not be overshadowed. Don’t let emotions cloud Liverpool’s American owner’s thinking. Remember, Liverpool were far from convincing in winning their first games of the season.

The concerns were clear from the time, but after four months with Slot, there were no answers. This isn’t rocket science. Slots are the problem, not the solution. Therefore, Fenway Sports Group needs to find such a manager.
