Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo has offered Diogo Jota’s family a sentimental gift after showing great behavior to his national team-mates over the summer.
Cristiano Ronaldo has gifted Diogo Jota’s family a watch commemorating Portugal’s Nations League victory. The late Liverpool star was instrumental in his country’s success in Europe before his tragic death.
Portugal national team captain Ronaldo provided each of his national team-mates with a personalized watch. This included having a watch engraved with Diogo Jota’s name and number delivered to his family.
Portugal came from behind to beat Spain twice in the Nations League final, but Jota came on as a substitute. Goals from Nuno Mendes and Ronaldo forced penalties and Portugal succeeded, scoring all five goals.
Ronaldo asked his friend Jacob Arabo for the watch and it was delivered in time for the first World Cup qualifier against Armenia. Portuguese media outlet SIC revealed the gesture.
The price of the personalized watch has not been disclosed, but it is estimated to be in the hundreds of thousands of euros. Jacob&Co has announced the Epic X UEFA Nations League 2025 Champions Custom Edition for the national team.

The company produced 35 pieces with “skeleton dials, bespoke designs and the Portuguese coat of arms”. They described the watch as “as extraordinary as the Champion itself.”
Ronaldo came under scrutiny for not attending Jota’s funeral after the Liverpool star’s brother died in a car crash. A number of Portugal’s star players were in attendance, including Ruben Neves and Bruno Fernandes.
In a recent interview with Piers Morgan, Ronaldo explained his absence. “There are two things. People criticize me a lot,” he said. “I don’t care about that. If your conscience is good and free, you don’t have to worry about what people say.
“But the one thing I don’t do? Since my father died, I haven’t been to a cemetery again. You know me, you know my reputation. Everywhere I go, it’s a circus. I don’t go out, because if I go out, the attention will be on me. I don’t want that kind of attention.”
“I don’t like doing interviews at sensitive times, talking about him, talking about football. This shows that the circus is life. I’m not part of it. If you want to be part of this world, you’re lucky, but I’ll be part of the other side.”
“People can keep criticizing. I was happy with my decision.”
