Man UTD 0-1 Everton: The Red Devils’ five-match unbeaten run ended after a bizarre incident, defeat to a stubborn Toffees team at Old Trafford.
Manchester United wasted a chance to get back into the Premier League top four by losing to 10-man Everton at Old Trafford on Monday night.
The drama began within the first 15 minutes, when Everton star Idrissa Gay was sent off for a collision with team-mate Michael Keane. Despite the odds, the Toffees fought back and even managed to take an unexpected lead thanks to Keenan Dewsbury-Hall’s eye-catching strike.
United looked to equalize, but England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford proved an insurmountable wall. And his performances were crucial for the Toffees to go on to win an unlikely victory.
Here are the talking points from Old Trafford.

Gaie sees red
Midfielder Gay has been one of Everton’s most consistent players in recent seasons, but a brief moment of madness saw him sacked at Old Trafford. After colliding with teammate Michael Keane, Gay appeared to raise his hand to the defender’s face.
The two got into a heated argument, and Gueye struck out and received a red card. It’s one thing to get sent off for a bad tackle or get irritated with an opponent, but it’s another to take an early bath for a fight with a teammate.
He will now receive an automatic three-game suspension for violent conduct. There’s no doubt that manager David Moyes will be absolutely furious, and rightly so.

Dewsbury Hall silences Old Trafford
Facing 10 men with nearly 80 minutes remaining, the Red Devils had a big chance. Not that we knew it throughout much of the first period, as Everton claimed a shock lead.
What broke the deadlock was a stunning goal from midfielder Dewsbury Hall. He picked up the ball outside the penalty area and fended off several challenges before firing a stunning shot past a desperate dive from Senne Ramens.
It was an eye-catching performance from a midfielder who now seems to have made the Premier League his home.
Penalty appeal was dismissed
After Gueye was involved in the incident that saw him sent off, former United defender Keane became a key figure in one of the second-period flashpoints as the hosts looked to equalize.
Brian Mbeumo, the Red Devils’ most threatening player throughout the match, looked to have a great chance when the ball fell into the penalty area. As he reached out to fire into the house, he appeared to be grabbed by Keene, who also threw down his boots.
United appeared to have loudly awarded the spot-kick, but replays showed that Keane lightly touched the ball before catching Mbeumo.
Produced by Pickford
Everton stopper Jordan Pickford is back in action after a memorable international tournament in which he extended his record-breaking clean sheet for England. The stopper produced a number of impressive stops to keep United at bay.
Pickford’s most stunning show-reel save at Old Trafford came when he denied Bruno Fernandes from range. He then made some great stops and fired a header into the goal of Joshua Zirkzee.
This was an impressive performance from the former Sunderland player and was more than worth seeing him end the night with a win.
Zirksee wastes his opportunity
Monday’s game against Everton was a real chance for Joshua Zirkzee to get his United career back on track after being handed his first Premier League start of the season in the absence of Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesco.
However, the Dutch forward really struggled to make an impression. He wasn’t quite a threat up front and, although he did concede some nice headers, he was very sloppy with the ball.
He ended up playing the entire game, but it was more of a necessity than a choice. As it stands, Zirkzee seems far from the solution to the Red Devils’ offense.
