Liverpool manager Arne Slott is in need of defensive reinforcements in the January transfer window, with Crystal Palace captain Marc Göch remaining the Reds’ top target.
Liverpool will need to spend big to sign Marc Guehi in January. And in the summer he will face a huge battle to sign Real Madrid and Barcelona, with European giants hoping to sign him as a free agent.
Liverpool manager Arne Slott is calling for defensive reinforcements in the next transfer window to stabilize the season after a disastrous start to the Premier League. The Crystal Palace captain could be brought back, but it would require a huge fee to sign a player who only has six months left on his current contract.
Guehi, 25, has already informed Palace that he will not sign a new contract, but his behavior to date has earned him great respect from the club’s fan base.

Liverpool failed to make a deadline-day move to sign him for £35m in the summer, but he is clearly on the radar as they look to fill gaps in their defence. Incredibly, they have conceded 20 goals in 12 games, with a goal difference of -2.
But less than three months later, he was close to finalizing a deal, but now faces even more competition from overseas clubs. Guehi’s overseas suitors, including Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Inter Milan, will be able to speak to him from January 1 and sign a pre-contract before the end of the campaign.
Free agents often earn more money, and Real Madrid and Barcelona also know that Guehi holds an Ivorian passport, meaning he will also count as an EU player in Spain.
Palace will have to balance losing Guehi for free in the summer with the reduced fee he will receive in January and his value to the team, where his quality means they improve their chances of success.
Liverpool may need to get close to what they offered in the summer to tempt Gehi and Palace, even though he is out of contract.
But former Anfield hero Jamie Carragher last week said Liverpool should do everything in their power to sign him in January.
“Liverpool needed to spend money in January, they needed to sign a centre-back and they should have bought a centre-back in the summer,” Carragher told Overlap.
“Liverpool are probably just one more injury to their centre-back and their season will be really derailed. So they have to go to the market in January. I feel they needed to bring in that many players over the summer.”
