Jamie Carragher targets Mohamed Salah as Liverpool star gets smashed by Anfield icon
Manager Jamie Carragher has called out Mohamed Salah after the Reds’ sixth defeat in seven Premier League games, believing the Liverpool forward should “come out and speak for the team”.
Arne Slott’s side lost 3-0 to Nottingham Forest at Anfield on Saturday, leaving the Reds in 11th place in the table, 11 points behind leaders Arsenal.
Reflecting on yet another disappointing defeat and Liverpool’s predicament, Carragher singled out Salah, rather than captain Virgil van Dijk, as the person to talk about the club’s current situation.
Carragher said Salah frequently spoke publicly about his contract situation last season and claimed he had decided to remain silent as Liverpool struggled to maintain their form.

Carragher told Sky Sports Monday Night Football: “I don’t know. Nobody knows. Managers look at the players every day and they can’t fix it completely at the moment. We’re talking about a Premier League-winning manager.”
“After the game, I think Virgil van Dijk came out again and talked about what he should do as captain and called Liverpool a mess. I have to say it’s always Van Dijk who comes out even after Liverpool lose.”
“And like I said, the captain should do that, but the other players in the dressing room should also come out and speak on behalf of the club.
“One year ago this weekend, Mo Salah shamelessly came out and talked about his situation, including how the club did not offer him a contract.
“The only time I listen to Salah is when he wins man of the match or when he needs a new contract.
“I’d like to see Salah come out as one of the leaders, a Liverpool legend and represent the team. He shouldn’t always be the captain.”
Salah has appeared in 12 Premier League games this season, scoring just four goals and providing two assists. This is a far cry from his all-time record in the English top flight in 2024/25, when he directly contributed to 47 goals.
As for Liverpool, they could have picked up 30 points this season but have only managed to pick up 18 points. After the defeat against Forest, head coach Slott said: “It’s hard to measure how bad (the result) was, but of course it was a very bad result. To play at home and lose 3-0 is of course a very, very, very bad result against any team.”
“When you look at the first 30 minutes of the game, it was unexpected because, in my opinion, it was a good start for us. I’ve probably never seen us create that much in the first 30 minutes of a game all season.”
“I don’t really know now because I don’t remember all the games, but we were able to create a lot. The first time they arrived in our box, they scored a goal. It’s a very difficult cocktail to drink and drink, if you miss your chances and every time you concede a goal the ball goes in.”
