Sky Sports made a big mistake during the early stages of Celtic’s game against St Mirren in the Scottish Premiership when they went into a commercial break. And some viewers were furious.

Celtic arrived at Paisley’s SMiSA Stadium looking to close the gap on league leaders Hearts.

The Glasgow side had a disastrous start to the season under manager Brendan Rodgers, but had recorded back-to-back 4-0 wins in the Scottish Premiership under caretaker manager Martin O’Neill ahead of the game against St Mirren.

Then, just as supporters who were watching the match on TV were trying to settle in, the coverage was suddenly interrupted and an advertisement appeared on the screen.

Fans of X (formerly Twitter) were quick to react to the confusion, with @AJ_CELTIC writing: “Oh yeah. Main event on Sky Sports is great.”

Meanwhile, @KevinTwist67 wrote: “Sky???? I saw the ad 7 minutes into the Celtic game.” And @WFCConor asked: “Why did Sky go into an ad break 10 minutes into the Celtic game?”

Fellow football fan @Omaghbohy67 simply exclaimed: “Did Sky just air a shitty ad during the match??” And @obrien_jonathan posted: “Two adverts randomly inserted into Sky live broadcast of St Mirren vs Celtic. Is this new? God help me.”

Celtic went into the game with 23 points after winning seven of their 12 league games and drawing the remaining two.

And before the crash, O’Neill explained: “I just tried to focus and understand that I was here until they told me to stop. But I have to admit, I’m still surprised, of course. But I just focus on it.”

“(I’m) expecting a really tough game, a really tough game. I went to watch them play Hibs and it’s the second week in a row we’ll be playing them.”

“It (could be my last game), but in that sense it goes game by game and we can obviously outstay our welcome here until we not only have a new manager but also lose a game. People will want to make changes soon after that, which is understandable because we are in the business of results. We have to strive and win.”

The first half of the match was tense, with both teams struggling to convert chances in front of goal. And St Mirren were solid, with both teams going into the interval level with 0 wins and 0 losses.
