Erling Haaland has already scored 14 goals for Manchester City this season and the Norwegian striker could join the exclusive club this weekend against Newcastle
Erling Haaland, now 99, has not left after three seasons in the Premier League and could become the 35th member of the 100 club on Saturday night.
The Manchester City marksman goes into the game against Newcastle as a lifelong player, but one more goal will take him to triple figures in England’s top flight. The Norwegian has already scored 14 goals this season, with Liverpool his latest victim.
Haaland previously found the net against Newcastle, but despite the Magpies’ poor away form, he struggled to get the ball rolling at St James’ Park.
The former Borussia Dortmund star is just shy of Alan Shearer’s record of 260 games, which tops the list of iconic players. However, many believe Haaland could rival the Newcastle legend if he chooses to remain in England for the majority of his career. The man himself was asked about Mr Shearer’s huge record and whether he could achieve it earlier this month.
“I don’t know much about records, but I do know this,” he replied. “I can’t think about records that I can break. I’m trying to help my team win football games. I know it’s boring and I know you want to say the exact opposite, but that’s just not the case right now.”

If Haaland can find the back of the net this weekend, he will join several former City stars with triple-digit hits. Sergio Aguero finished sixth with 184 points. Raheem Sterling has scored the majority of the 123 goals scored at the Etihad. Andy Cole was prolific during the first decade of the Premier League, playing briefly for Manchester’s sky blue side.
It quickly became clear that Haaland, who had excelled at Red Bull Salzburg and then Borussia Dortmund, would also go on to great success in England. He scored two goals on his debut for West Ham, breaking the single-season goals record in his debut season.
He has scores of 36, 27, and 22, and could surpass all of those totals this year as he continues to average more than one goal per game. Achieving the 100-goal mark would put him alongside Southampton legend Matt Le Tissier and some big names in his sights.
Cristiano Ronaldo scored 103 points, Didier Drogba 104 and Paul Scholes 107. As City manager Josep Guardiola speculates, Haaland has a clear opinion on whether he can reach the heights of Ronaldo and long-time rival Lionel Messi. “No, not at all, far away. No one can get close to them, so no,” he said candidly this month.
Last season, Mohamed Salah became the most prolific foreign player in Premier League history, currently boasting 190 tallies. The top three are all English. Shearer is second with Harry Kane on 213, with Wayne Rooney leading the way with 208. Kane could return later in his career to try to beat Shearer’s numbers, but he prioritized trophies over goals when he opted to join Bayern Munich more than two years ago.
Haaland may need more than this season to match or even surpass the start of the Premier League’s most iconic goalscorers. Thierry Henry is perhaps the greatest foreign import, with all 175 of his goals coming at Arsenal.
Frank Lampard was two goals short of Henry’s total, but Michael Owen went on to score 150 goals for Liverpool, Manchester United and Newcastle, among others. Robin van Persie scored 144 goals in just over 10 years with England.
Dion Dublin’s career saw him play for Coventry City and Aston Villa, winning the Golden Boot in the 1990s and scoring 111 goals. This total matched that of another former Liverpool star, Sadio Mane, who finished the season as the top scorer.
