Antoine Semenyo has signed a new contract with Bournemouth this summer after being linked with a move to Liverpool and Manchester United, but the Cherries could be ‘nothing’ in January.
Antoine Semenyo’s contract with Bournemouth has a £65m release clause, which could have Liverpool and Manchester United licking their lips. Semenyo has committed his future to the Cherries after being linked with both clubs this summer.
However, despite signing a new contract that will keep him at the Vitality Stadium until 2030, new revelations mean he could be moved as early as January.
According to The Athletic, the Ghanaian’s new contract comes with a release clause of £65m, which can be triggered by any club. Bournemouth are said to have reluctantly ‘accepted’ that his future is out of their control, with a January transfer possible.
The report also details how Semenyo was valued at around £70m this summer, with a release clause allowing interested parties to secure Semenyo’s services for slightly less in January. However, it is also claimed that for the Cherries to find a replacement, Liverpool, United or any other litigant would need to trigger his clause by a certain date.

This comes after Semenyo recently dismissed claims that he wanted to part ways with his current club. When asked recently by Jamie Redknapp about his future, the Ghanaian international replied: “I don’t really think about it.
“I try to stay present as much as possible. I always watch the news and I watch it as well. It’s not that I don’t care, but I try to stay focused.
“I’m enjoying my football here. If I’m not scoring goals, it all goes away. I’m staying where I am, doing my best for the team, scoring goals and trying to see what happens in the future.”
“When they (former team-mates) all left (in the summer) there was a lot of interest and back and forth at the club, but I knew in my head that the manager was up to something this year.
“The way the season ended last year was very good, so we were able to continue, especially with the players we had. At first I wasn’t too confident, but we started like a house on fire. I’m glad I decided to stay here, because I’m enjoying every moment.”
Semenyo, who scored an astonishing 13 goals in all competitions last season, has found himself at the center of speculation over a move to United or Liverpool, with Tottenham also showing interest. In the end, United brought in Brian Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesco, while Liverpool brought in Florian Wirtz, Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike.
Spurs also signed Mohamed Kudus in a £55m deal from West Ham United. However, with six goals in the Premier League so far this season, clubs could be interested in the 25-year-old again when the transfer window reopens in January.
Despite spending big this summer, Arne Slott has failed to inspire Liverpool to perform this season, with the defending Premier League champions currently languishing in eighth place with six wins and five losses from their opening 11 games.
Manchester United are starting to improve under manager Ruben Amorim, but questions remain over Sesco’s suitability as a sole striker given his age and lack of experience at the top level.
Elsewhere, Spurs could sit fifth in the Premier League table, but with Semenyo currently two goals clear of top scorer Richarlison, they may be open to the idea of bringing in the Bournemouth sensation as an upgrade.
