Manchester United fans have been heartened by the latest Premier League fixture changes. League officials appear to have taken note of the concerns raised by supporters of the game after the December schedule was announced. Coach Ruben Amorim’s side will not play any Saturday games between now and Christmas. Only two of the next eight games will be played over the weekend, and both will be away games.
But United fans can breathe a sigh of relief knowing the next Manchester derby will take place at the weekend. By the time the derby rolls around, it will have been almost three months since I last attended Saturday’s game at Old Trafford. United CEO Omar Berrada spoke with Premier League manager Richard Masters about the club’s concerns. The derby is one of 19 games rescheduled from mid-January to early February.
United will be looking for revenge against City, who beat them 3-0 in their last encounter, on Saturday, January 17th at 12:30pm. Matches in the 12:30pm slot on Saturdays are usually broadcast live on TNT Sports, but this time the derby will be broadcast on Sky Sports.
TNT will instead broadcast Arsenal’s trip to Nottingham Forest on the same day at 5:30 p.m. Sky will broadcast both games on Sunday 18 January. Wolves host Newcastle at 2pm before Everton travel to Aston Villa at 4.30pm.
And on Monday, January 19th at 8pm, Brighton v Bournemouth’s south coast clash will be broadcast live on Sky. TNT will regain its slot on Saturday 24 January when West Ham host Sunderland at 12:30pm. The 5.30pm match on Sky is Bournemouth vs Liverpool.
Further action is scheduled on Sunday 25th January with two 2pm kick-offs, Brentford v Forest and Newcastle v Villa. United’s game against Arsenal will also be broadcast on Sky from 4.30pm, while Everton’s home game against Leeds will also be shown on Monday 26 January from 8pm.
Finally, the game on Saturday, January 31st from 12:30pm will not be played. Instead, TV coverage will begin on Sky for Chelsea vs. West Ham at 5:30pm, with Liverpool hosting Newcastle on TNT from 8pm. Football fans are looking forward to Sunday, February 1st. Aston Villa v Brentford, Man United v Fulham and Nottingham Forest v Crystal Palace all kick off at 2pm on Sky.
Their coverage continues from 4.30pm as Tottenham take on City in north London. Then, on Monday 2nd February, Sunderland will host Burnley to complete matchday 24.
