Chelsea will not loan Filip Jorgensen in January, despite the £20m goalkeeper hoping for regular minutes ahead of Denmark’s World Cup play-off campaign
Chelsea have no intention of letting goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen leave on loan during the January transfer window, Mirror Football understands.
The Danish keeper is understood to be considering his options mid-season as he seeks more playing time ahead of next summer’s World Cup, as they need to progress through the play-offs to qualify for the tournament. Jorgensen has played just under 360 minutes in four games in all competitions this season, with Roberto Sanchez remaining Enzo Maresca’s first-choice keeper.
The 23-year-old might have played even less if Sanchez had not been sacked after the Premier League defeat to Manchester United on September 20. Chelsea signed Jorgensen from Villarreal for around £20m in July last year and since then he has made a total of 28 appearances, half of which came during last season’s Conference League period.

Despite Jorgensen’s desire to consider his availability in January, it is understood the Blues are not currently considering a loan move for the stopper. Football London reports that Maresca has repeatedly expressed his satisfaction with the club’s existing goalkeeping duo of Sanchez and Jorgensen.
Regarding the situation in March, when Sanchez was under considerable scrutiny, Maresca said: “I have said many times that I am happy with both goalkeepers, but sometimes you have to be flexible.
“Since we started, there was no thought of changing the goaltender, but we have to be flexible. We do this with our game plan, the way we attack and defend, but we also have to be flexible with our players.”
Chelsea’s young goalkeeper Mike Penders is currently on loan at sister club Strasbourg. The 20-year-old Belgian has attracted attention during his time in France and the Blues will reassess his situation when he returns to Cobham next summer.
