TNT Sports is reportedly set to lose the rights to broadcast Champions League matches from 2027. The broadcaster, which has been broadcasting European football’s top matches since the 2015/16 season, will be replaced by rival network Paramount+, The Times reports.
Since its founding, Paramount+ has primarily focused on movies and entertainment, but has recently begun expanding its sports catalog. U.S. viewers can now watch Champions League matches through the platform, which also recently signed a deal with the UFC to broadcast its events.
The complex bidding process for the rights is being managed by Relevent Football, with British, German, Italian, Spanish and French bids all being submitted at the same time. Despite losing the rights to broadcast the Champions League, TNT will continue to have rights to broadcast Premier League matches and the FA Cup.
This change could mean that soccer fans may need to subscribe to another service if they want to continue watching Champions League football.
Amazon Prime is poised to secure first choice for Tuesday’s matches in Europe’s major competitions following a new streaming deal with UEFA. The company currently has a three-year contract to exclusively broadcast 17 top pick games from each season’s competition.
This comes as the Champions League is scheduled to resume after a two-week hiatus during which domestic football was also suspended. Tuesday’s games will see Ajax take on Benfica, Galatasaray take on Union Saint Giroise, Bodo/Glimt host Juventus and Napoli take on Qarabag.
In other matches, Newcastle United take on Marseille, Borussia Dortmund host Villarreal, Chelsea take on Barcelona, Manchester City take on Bayer Leverkusen and Slavia Prague take on Athletic Club.
This season’s final will be held on May 30, 2026 at the Puskas Arena in Budapest, Hungary.
