Liverpool have struggled defensively this season and Roy Keane and Jamie Carragher feel Arne Slott & Co. will regret not signing Marc Guehy in the summer.
Roy Keane and Jamie Carragher have suggested Liverpool will regret failing to sign Marc Guehy in the summer transfer window after a deal for the Crystal Palace captain fell through on deadline day.
The Premier League champions have endured a difficult start to the season and have had some concerns defensively at times. Unfortunately for Arne Slott, his options at the back are limited after summer signing Giovanni Leoni suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury that will keep him out until next season.
Carragher believes his former club only need to sign a central defender in the January transfer window to get their season back on track. Both he and Keane feel that failing to do so could cost them Champions League qualification, and believe the club will “regret” the decision to not get Guehi over the line sooner.

“That was a terrible mistake[not signing Marc Guehi],” Carragher said on the Stick to Football podcast. “Liverpool are known for being very smart in the market, not overpaying and very good at selling. That could hurt them. If Liverpool don’t sign a centre-back in January…”
Keane then interjected: “They’re going to miss out on the Champions League,” and Carragher agreed. The Manchester United captain also named Gehi’s transfer as a mistake, adding: “They will regret that decision too, I think it will be Gehi in the summer.”
“The more you look, the worse the situation seems to be.”
Liverpool delayed the deadline in a bid to sign Guehi, but it was Crystal Palace who withdrew from the England star’s contract after failing to sign his desired replacement, who is still under contract until next summer.
Sky Sports revealed on Wednesday night that the feeling at Selhurst Park was that Liverpool were the only team likely to make a move for the 25-year-old in January among Gehi’s suitors, and that it would be Palace’s last chance to land the defender.
Guehi is known to have fans among Europe’s elite. But those clubs would rather bide their time, hoping to sign him on a free transfer in 2026.
