Ruben Amorim has ruled out his thoughts on the international break at Manchester United
Manager Ruben Amorim’s holiday ban during his international break will continue to apply to 11 Manchester United players who were not called up. The Red Devils manager introduced the policy last year following the controversy surrounding Marcus Rashford and Casemiro.
The pair had visited the US last November after being missed by England and Brazil respectively. The pair faced intense backlash for choosing to travel long distances for a short break rather than staying in Manchester, with Gary Neville also publicly slamming them.
Amorim, who took over as United manager for just two weeks, initially defended Rashford and Casemiro, pointing out that the club had not explicitly banned them from traveling during international matches.
The 40-year-old said at the time: “Shall we have a different regime? Yes, of course. But we can’t impose this on the players. We said they have five days off and can fly anywhere, because no one at the club has said you can’t fly. So this time you can’t impose that on Rush or Case.”
Nevertheless, Amorim acknowledged that change was imminent, saying, “As a club we have to set standards and manage them. It’s my decision whether they can rest for five days, or three days, or three days, and they can’t get on a plane.”

“This is something we have to decide as a club. So this should start within the club and we and I will take responsibility in that area.”It’s a change that continues a year after his arrival, and one that is also adhered to by current United players who are not on international duty.
The club has 15 first-team players away on national team duty, with 11 players remaining at Carrington ahead of their return to action in the Premier League at home to Everton on Monday.
The 11 players include Benjamin Sesko, who withdrew from the Slovenia squad due to injury, as well as the England quintet of Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw, Mason Mount, Koby Mainu and Tom Heaton.
Dutch pair Tyrrell Malasia and Joshua Zirkzee are also staying at the training facility, while young players Aiden Haven, Tyler Fredriksson and Chido Obi are all hoping to catch Amorim’s eye for more first-team appearances.
United last played at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium earlier this month, picking up a point in a 2-2 draw with Spurs thanks to Matthijs de Ligt’s 96th-minute equalizer.
After the match, Amorim lamented his team’s lack of courage, saying: “I think we need to look at ourselves more. We weren’t pressing with the same intensity because we felt comfortable.”
“We need to understand that, but we also need to feel that with a little more courage, we can crush this game. Sometimes that happens. The first half is better than the second half.”
