Rasmus Hjølund’s transfer fee is rising even higher, having improved during his loan spell from Manchester United. The Danish striker left the Red Devils and joined Napoli on a season-long loan deal that included a buyout obligation.
The current Serie A champions are obligated to pay United 44 million euros (approximately 3.8 billion yen) next summer, subject to certain conditions being met. United have already secured a loan fee of 6 million euros (approximately 530 million yen) from Napoli, and if the transfer is completed permanently, the total transfer fee could reach 50 million euros (approximately 44.1 million pounds).
Hoylund bid farewell to Old Trafford in the summer after scoring 26 goals in two seasons at United (including 10 the previous season). Since joining Napoli, the Danish international has scored four goals in his first 10 games.
It remains to be seen whether Hoylund will make a permanent move to Napoli next summer or return to United. However, the striker has enjoyed his time in Italy and his market value appears to have increased in recent months.
According to CIES Football Observatory, Hojlund’s current market value is between €79m (£69.7m) and €92m (£81.1m).
This means that Hojlund’s value has increased significantly since the end of last season. In June, the same website estimated the striker’s transfer market value at between €59m (about £52m) and €76m (about £67m).
Napoli have yet to confirm whether they will make Hoylund’s loan move permanent next summer, leaving the striker’s future uncertain.
Høylund still has a chance to compete for the Serie A title and the Champions League title throughout the season. Speculation is rife that Manchester United could bring back Hojlund in the January transfer window following Benjamin Sesco’s knee injury.
The Slovenian international picked up the injury before the international break and subsequent updates suggest he could be sidelined for up to a month. At the time of the injury, there were concerns that Sesco could face an even longer layoff.
This has sparked rumors of a possible early return for Hojlund to Old Trafford, but this will not be possible as the transfer agreement signed earlier this year did not include such a clause.
