There is growing speculation that Chelsea goalkeeper Cole Palmer is close to returning to the pitch after a long spell on the sidelines due to a groin injury. The playmaker has missed the team’s last 11 games, with his most recent appearance coming in September’s Premier League match against Manchester United.
Despite his ongoing recovery process, Palmer has made just four appearances for the Blues this season. However, coach Enzo Maresca wants to get the Ballon d’Or candidate back into the squad as soon as possible.
As Chelsea prepare for their next Premier League game against Burnley at Turf Moor, Palmer hinted that his return may be closer than expected.
Palmer posted a photo of himself in Chelsea’s dressing room on his Instagram Story, which he shared with his 8.4 million followers.
It was accompanied by two egg timer emojis, perhaps indicating that his return was imminent.
Maresca regularly updates fans on Palmer’s progress, with the latest updates suggesting the 23-year-old could return to action sooner rather than later.
“So right now, at this moment, we’re spending every day with Cole. He hasn’t had any sessions with the team (yet),” Maresca revealed earlier this month.
“Honestly, I’d love to have Cole here tomorrow. I’d love to have Cole here early. I’ve said many times that we’re a better team with Cole.”
“Unfortunately for us he is out injured, but we definitely hope he will be back soon.”
Following the Premier League match against Burnley, Chelsea have two important games in both domestic and European competitions.
The Blues will play Barcelona in the Champions League before hosting Arsenal at Stamford Bridge in the top flight a few days later, but it remains unclear whether Palmer will be available for either game.
