Antoine Semenho has been one of the stars of the Premier League so far, with the Bournemouth ace linked with Liverpool and Manchester United amid hints he could move in January.
Antoine Semenyo’s future could be one of the biggest talking points of the January transfer window. The forward has started the season well with six goals and three assists in Bournemouth’s first six games of the Premier League season.
Two of those games were the opening game against Liverpool, where the Cherries came from behind to win at Anfield to equalize, only to lose 4-2 in the embers. Semenyo, 25, has not scored or assisted since early October, but interest in him remains.
Speculation over his future continued to smolder after it was revealed on Monday that the Ghanaian international has a £65m release clause attached to his contract. Semenyo signed a new contract with Bournemouth in July, likely keeping him on the south coast until 2030.
However, Liverpool and Manchester United could test Cherries’ resolve this winter, with Tottenham also likely to be involved. It would not be Semenyo’s first time speaking to one of the so-called “big six.”

Bournemouth ‘accept’ that transfer cannot be stopped
Bournemouth are by no means a pushover, but they have to accept reality. That is why Vitality Stadium bosses have reluctantly accepted that they are powerless to prevent Semenyo from leaving as early as January, despite wanting to keep him at least until the end of the season.
The Athletic were first to report the news that Bournemouth had accepted a £65m release clause and that his departure could be more than six weeks away. In particular, the clause would need to be triggered by a certain date, although the proposed buyer could be any club, domestic or international, to give Bournemouth a few weeks to find a replacement.

Bournemouth GM Tim Bezbatchenko admitted in a recent interview that it would be difficult to deny Semenyo a move to an elite club, and also mentioned Liverpool. “When clubs like Real Madrid, Liverpool and PSG come in and compete for Champions League spots, who are we to say, ‘No, you can’t go, you can’t make your dream come true’,” Bezbatchenko said on the Business of Sport podcast.
“No, it won’t be for every club, because not everyone is Real Madrid. But there’s a chance and everyone wins, right? I think that’s what we’re trying to find, this common ground where everyone can win.”
Meeting with Ruben Amorim and Manchester United meeting
With the signings of Matheus Cunha and Brian Mbeumo, as well as interest in the likes of Elliott Anderson, Carlos Baleva and Adam Wharton, it’s clear that United want to sign proven Premier League stars. This also explains why Ruben Amorim reportedly had dinner with Semenyo in London at the end of last season and assessed his character.
Old Trafford manager Omar Berrada and Jason Wilcox have also held talks with Bournemouth, with United said to be willing to pay £55m. However, according to The Transfers Podcast, it is claimed that Semenyo rejected their advances after learning that United intended to offer him less money than other targets.
liverpool stance
Liverpool may have spent £320m rebuilding their attacking line just a few months ago, but the Premier League champions are still looking to strengthen their squad. Liverpool are monitoring the 25-year-old, who joined Bournemouth from Bristol City for £10m in January 2023, according to reports.
On paper, it would be difficult for Semenyo to find a place in Arne Slott’s squad, but their form this season suggests that a ready-to-go goalscorer could be exactly the player they need. But can you afford to spend more in the same financial year?
