Liverpool have a big decision to make over the future of defender Andrew Robertson, with the Reds given a warning about leaving Anfield at the end of the season.
Liverpool have been warned that letting Andrew Robertson leave the club would be a huge loss. The Scottish defender’s future at Anfield is still up in the air, but he is under contract until next summer.
If Liverpool choose not to renew his contract, he could leave for free at the end of the season. Robertson revealed he is “relaxed” about the current situation and admitted this could be his last season at the club. However, former Liverpool star Jason McAteer has opened up about Robertson’s future, suggesting the club could let him leave but that it would be a big mistake.
Speaking to AceOdds, McAteer said: “The thing about Andy Robertson and Liverpool is really interesting. Given how he’s served Liverpool in his career, I think it’s more a case of Liverpool giving him an option. If he wants to go to Celtic, they won’t stand in his way.”
“I’m sure he’ll be offered a new contract, but obviously on different terms. Liverpool have reached the point where Man City were last season, they really wore the team down. Jurgen Klopp wore them out, but he had great success with the likes of Milner, Henderson and Lallana.”

“When Milner left, I was worried about Liverpool. A lot of football is played in changing rooms and training grounds. There are only a few leaders. Leadership can be talked about in many different ways these days. You can lead by example, you can be vocal and you can lead in many different ways.”
“Before… if it wasn’t Milner, it would be Henderson. If not him, it would be Lallana or someone else. So, going back to Andy Robertson, Liverpool need him and his experience, but he’s playing a lot now, especially because of his leadership qualities. I think Andy Robertson is needed by Liverpool right now for a variety of reasons.”
“I think Liverpool lack that kind of leadership on the pitch. I know some people criticize Virgil van Dijk, but he certainly provides leadership in a different way. He’s still a big figure within the club and the players respect him.”

“He’s still one of the best players Liverpool have. But sometimes you can’t just look at leadership. We need two or three more players. Van Dijk is a bit unwell and needs to look after himself. That’s human nature. How can you blame others when you yourself aren’t playing well? So he’s going to fall down the table.”
Robertson, 31, signed for Liverpool from Hull in 2017. He went on to make 354 appearances for the club, helping the club win two Premier League titles, the Champions League, the FA Cup and two League Cups.
