Arsenal ‘open to Ethan Nwaneri’s departure’, possibility of sale of 3-star | Soccer | Sports

Arsenal are reportedly prepared to entertain offers for four players in the January transfer window, including a potential loan move for wonderkid Ethan Nwaneri. The 18-year-old has played under Mikel Arteta since making his first-team debut at the age of 15, but is yet to start a game for the Gunners this season.

According to the Daily Mail, Nwaneri could be “given a chance” given the right circumstances. Meanwhile, Ben White’s situation is said to be under review ahead of the new year, with a bid for Gabriel Martinelli potentially on the table amid interest from Saudi Arabia.

The Brazilian fell down the pecking order with the arrival of Noni Madueke from Chelsea in the summer. Gabriel Jesus, who has been plagued by injuries for several seasons at Arsenal, is also reportedly on the list of candidates to leave.

The Brazilian forward is recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury sustained in last season’s FA Cup third round. Before suffering a major setback, Jesus scored four goals in two games, in the Carabao Cup and against Crystal Palace in the Premier League.

Arsenal hope to have Jesus fit enough for next month in time for the winter transfer window, which opens on January 1st.

If a “suitable” offer is received, the club will consider a move on the striker, who has been at the Emirates since 2022. Otherwise, he is expected to step down next summer.

The Gunners spent £250m in the summer, bringing in players such as Kepa Arrizabalaga, Martin Zvimendi, Christian Norgaard, Noni Madueke, Cristian Mosquera, Victor Goqueres and Ebelesi Eze.

It is expected that the squad will be streamlined by releasing players who currently have limited playing opportunities, but it has been reported that 95 percent of the current squad will “remain unchanged.”

Last month, Arteta revealed he had left Nwaneli out of Arsenal’s squad completely during Arsenal’s 2-1 win over Newcastle, explaining that the quality of the squad was such that a talented player could be forced to leave the game.

“We talked to all the players and had specific meetings about that and the scenario throughout the season,” he explained.

“Some of them are going to start, some of them are going to finish the game, some of them are going to be on the bench and not playing, and unfortunately in the Premier League there are restrictions on numbers so some of them are going to be out of the squad.

“Sometimes we have to move more players because something might happen and someone might get sick or somebody might have doubts about whether they’ll be able to play the next morning, and unfortunately we have to do that.

“But the attitude of all the players has been very good because we have explained it to them and they understand how we feel personally, so they will have a chance to play.”
