Former Chelsea star Oscar collapsed at the São Paulo training ground due to a heart problem and is currently in hospital, where he is currently being diagnosed in Brazil.
An update has been provided on the health status of former Chelsea midfielder Oscar, who was admitted to ICU after collapsing earlier this week. Brazil star loses consciousness during training and remains under observation
Oscar, 34, was doing an interval test on a stationary bike at a practice range in Sao Paulo when he fell ill. Brazilian media outlet Global Esporte reported that he lost consciousness for two minutes. The issue arose after Oscar suffered a spinal fracture in August.
Oscar has been benched twice since then, but it is claimed he continues to be monitored for a heart condition after showing signs of abnormalities during tests for a broken bone.
São Paulo said in a statement on Tuesday that Oscar “exhibited symptoms associated with cardiac changes” and that “the club’s specialists and the medical team of the Israel Einstein Hospital responded immediately.” They have now provided another update, confirming the diagnosis of vasovagal syncope.

“Midfielder Oscar remains hospitalized at Einstein-Israelta Hospital, where he was admitted on Tuesday afternoon (11th) after showing symptoms with heart changes during tests performed on SuperCT.
“Extensive tests carried out at the hospital confirmed the diagnosis of vasovagal syncope. Oscar’s clinical condition is good and stable and he has been admitted to the cardiac ward and will undergo electrophysiological tests this Friday.”
In this condition, heart rate and blood pressure suddenly drop. This reduces blood flow to the brain and can cause temporary loss of consciousness. Vasovagal syncope can occur when the body overreacts to heat, hunger, or emotional distress.
Oscar started his career with the Brazilian team before returning to São Paulo on a three-year contract in December. The attacker’s reputation was further enhanced during his time at Chelsea, when he won two Premier League titles.
The veteran then made a surprise move to the Chinese Super League, winning three Chinese Super League titles with Shanghai Port.
Chelsea congratulated their former star on Wednesday afternoon. “The thoughts of everyone at Chelsea FC are with former player Oscar and his family at this difficult time,” the club said.
