Manchester United are eyeing a midfield double swap next summer with Elliott Anderson at the top of their list. Red Devils head coach Ruben Amorim has prioritized strengthening his midfield as he looks to revamp his squad, with Brighton’s Carlos Baleva also in the spotlight.
Despite Brighton & Hove Albion FC fending off United’s interest in the 21-year-old Cameroonian last summer, the Old Trafford side remain keen and the player himself is keen on a move. However, Nottingham Forest’s England international Anderson is also a target for United. His versatility, being able to play as both a defensive midfielder and an attacking midfielder, means they are prepared to do everything in their power to secure his services.
Anderson, 23, has attracted attention with his impressive performances for both club and country, and Forest are preparing for a battle to retain him.
Still, Anderson’s price is likely to be lower than Baleva’s £100m, making him an attractive candidate. United veteran Casemiro’s contract is coming to an end and he will have to accept a pay cut if he is to remain.
United are also interested in Conor Gallagher, who is targeting a place in the World Cup squad, should he become available on loan from Atletico Madrid in January.
Last summer, United invested heavily in forwards, bringing in Brian Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesco. Now they are ready to do the same in midfield as part of a long-term rebuilding strategy under Amorim.
After investing heavily in the summer, Amorim’s side had a dismal start to the season and were languishing in 14th place by the end of September. However, he turned things around after that and went undefeated in five games.
United are currently seventh in the league table following a late draw against Tottenham last time out. The Red Devils are scheduled to return to action next weekend when they host Everton at Old Trafford.
