Spanish superstar Lamine Yamal will miss the next two World Cup qualifiers after undergoing surgery during the club vs. country clash with Barcelona.
Spain coach Luis de la Fuente described the situation surrounding Lamine Yamal’s absence from the squad as “very unusual”. The international manager who led Los Rojos to the Euro 2024 title has revealed that he was surprised to find out that Barcelona’s influential stars were not available for the World Cup qualifiers against Georgia and Turkey.
De la Fuente’s reaction comes after the national federation said it was surprised that Yamal underwent an invasive procedure. RFEF did not discover that this had happened until the day the international players were due to join up with their Spanish teammates.
Yamal has already won 23 caps despite only being 18 years old, but he will not receive any more caps in the next 10 days. The teen star instead underwent invasive radiofrequency surgery to address persistent Puberial problems.
Yamal has already missed four La Liga games this season due to a groin problem. The prodigal talent has scored or assisted in all but one of the other eight games. Spanish national team coach de la Fuente was candid in a radio interview in his home country, expressing his surprise at the situation.

“Of course I was surprised,” de la Fuente told RNE Deportes. “When you don’t know anything, you don’t know the details, and you’re surprised when someone says something to you, especially when it’s a medical issue.”
“There are procedures that take place outside the federation. That is the reality and we have to accept it. (It) is not very normal. No, I have never experienced a situation like this. I think it is very unusual.”
The Spanish Football Association is dissatisfied with the way things are unfolding. They believe Yamal should recover quickly, but rest is recommended.
“The RFEF medical service would like to express its surprise and displeasure to learn that at 13:47 on Monday, November 10, the start of the official training camp with the national team, player Lamine Yamal underwent an invasive radiofrequency surgery on the same morning to treat pubic discomfort,” the Spanish federation said in a statement.
“This procedure was carried out without prior notification to the national team’s medical staff, the details of which were only known from the report received at 22:40 last night, and medically recommended a rest period of 7 to 10 days.
“Taking into account the situation and keeping the player’s health, safety and well-being always our top priority, the Royal Spanish Football Federation has taken the decision to remove the player from his current call-up.
“We are confident that he will recover well and we hope that he makes a full recovery soon.”
