Highly-rated Brighton winger Amario Cosier-Duberry has earned the nickname ‘Super Amario’ after lighting up League One this season while on loan at Bolton Wanderers.
Amario Cosier-Duberry knew he was rolling the dice when his five-year stay at his boyhood club Arsenal came to an end in the summer of 2024.
It was a decision that required long consideration, but after ignoring a formal contract offer from the Gunners, the wayward teenager opted to join Brighton despite widespread interest from both the Premier League and Europe.
Newcastle have made a competitive offer for Kosier Duberry, with Borussia Dortmund and Ajax also holding detailed talks over a potential deal. Wolves were also included in the list of clubs vying for his signature.
The electric winger spent the heyday of his childhood admiring players like Thierry Henry, attending Arsenal home matches with his brothers just to catch a glimpse of his hero. But once he signed a four-year deal with the Amex on the dotted line with Albion, he swore to himself he would never regret it.
It is strongly felt that his path to the first team at Arsenal has been complicated, and as a left-footed right-winger, he humbly admitted that dethroning Bukayo Saka would prove virtually impossible.

Cosier-Duberry, who has made no secret of the fact that he models his game after Arjen Robben’s style, will pick Saka’s brain at London Colney to emulate his efficiency, and former Arsenal Under-18s head coach Jack Wilshere has previously pointed out there are clear similarities between the English duo.
“Amario is very exciting and Mikel likes him,” Wilshere told The Athletic in 2023. “He reminds me of Bukayo Saka and he plays in the same position as him and needs to improve his decision-making like Bukayo, but he’s definitely exciting. In some moments he’s unplayable. You give him the ball and he can make things happen. You can set up a team and have a game plan, but when you have an individual like that, it’s great.” ”
Cosier-Duberry made a bright start to his Brighton career last year, scoring twice in a 5-1 win over Kashima Antlers in the first game of Albion’s pre-season tour of Japan.
However, following the Seagulls’ £30 million signing of Newcastle’s Yankuba Minte, it was decided that a loan would be beneficial, with the explosive raw wide man joining Championship side Blackburn Rovers for the 2024-25 season.
He made 22 league appearances for Ewood Park, scoring just one goal, before joining League One promotion contenders Bolton Wanderers on a season-long loan.
Cosier-Duberry is arguably the EFL’s hottest player at the moment, having scored 14 points this season (7 goals, 7 assists) and recently winning EA Sports FC’s Young Player of the Month award after an incredible October.
Unsurprisingly, his brilliant form has attracted the attention of several Championship clubs, who will be interested in signing the player on loan in January for the second half of the campaign.
Bolton is desperate to stay as he is seen as a key player in promotion, but his contract includes a break clause. However, Brighton officials insist they are happy with the forward’s progress at the Tuffsheet Community Stadium and are thought to be reluctant to disrupt his development.
Wanderers insist that Cozier Duberry’s enthusiastic display is no coincidence. In 2023, Liverpool right-back Conor Bradley swept the Player of the Season, Player of the Year and Young Player awards after breaking into the first team at Anfield following an unusual loan spell in League One.
However, there is also a perception that this particular loan was love at first sight. The 20-year-old, who has scored four goals and provided three assists in his last three league appearances, is a student of the game and has been praised for treating every training session in Greater Manchester as if it were his last.
He is frequently kicked by opponents, and in recent matches the opposing manager has tinkered with the tactical settings in an attempt to neutralize Cosier-Duberry, even placing two defenders on his side to mark him out of the match, but this has so far proven ineffective.
‘Super Amario’ continues to bounce back and with his penetrating dribbling, crossing ability and knack for finding targets from range, he is already well on his way to earning a first-team opportunity at Brighton next season.
Jason Ayt, who joined Albion as sporting director in September, knows the silky dribbler well from his time at Arsenal, and the Seagulls already have an immediate replacement for Cozier Duberry in Minte, who is said to be attracting interest from the Premier League’s so-called ‘big six’.
Don’t be surprised if we’re talking about a Brighton transfer masterstroke again this time next year.
