England are co-hosts of Euro 2028 along with Wales, Scotland and Ireland, but Thomas Tuchel’s side are unlikely to secure a spot at Wembley even if they make it all the way to the end.
England could play two of their Euro 2028 matches away from Wembley. If the co-hosts advance through the group stage and reach the final, they could end up playing Manchester City and Newcastle.
Football Association president Debbie Hewitt promised her country and Ireland would deliver the “best ever” Euros after a glittering presentation in London. Details have been revealed for Euro 2028, which will be co-hosted by England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland, with the competition kicking off in Cardiff on June 9th and the final at Wembley on July 9th.
However, in previous ‘home tournaments’ at the 1966 World Cup and Euro 96, England played all their home matches at Wembley. And this will be a big departure for England as they travel around the country at all match venues at Tottenham, Everton’s new Hill Dickinson Stadium, Villa Park, Newcastle’s St James’s Park and the Etihad.
There are also games in Dublin, Cardiff and Glasgow, with England potentially ending up playing on Merseyside if they finish second in their group. Despite co-hosting, Thomas Tuchel’s side still need to qualify.

Wembley will host the semi-finals and final, but the remaining 16 matches will not be held and will be spread out across eight other venues, meaning England will be away from London, their North West home, if they reach that stage. In total, 51 games involving 24 teams will be played over 31 days, with at least two different groups at each stadium to ensure diversity.
The tournament started with a bang, with light shows taking place at Piccadilly Circus and other Euro 2028 venues across the UK and Ireland. The Euro 2028 logo, which features the iconic Henri Delaunay Trophy, is a “dynamic design that captures the spirit of celebration and connection, brought to life by vibrant colors inspired by the host nation,” according to UEFA.
FA President Hewitt, who also chairs UK & Ireland 2028, said: “Today marks a proud milestone for football across the UK and Ireland as we celebrate the opening of UEFA EURO 2028. “Together with UEFA, the world of football and our government partners, we will deliver the best EURO in history. It will be a tournament for the fans and a celebration of everything we love about the game: its passion and its ability to bring people together.”
“We are building an inspiring event. A welcoming, safe and sustainable UEFA EURO will have lasting benefits for our communities far beyond the pitch. The countdown to an unforgettable summer of football has begun.”

UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin said: “The host country, where this match first took shape, is keen to welcome millions of fans to its legendary stadiums. Fans will be the beating heart of this competition.”
Prime Minister Keir Starmer said: “UEFA EURO 2028 will be the biggest sporting event ever co-hosted by the UK and Ireland.
