Firefighters were called to fight a massive fire at Exeter City’s St James’s Park Stadium on Wednesday night.
Exeter, who play in League One, said in a statement on Thursday morning: “We can confirm that last night’s fire caused damage to a small area of the stadium.
“The fire is believed to have started at the corner of St James’s Road and Well Street at the stadium and caused damage to a temporary building housing the stadium’s control room.
“The alarm was raised just after 10pm and more than five firefighters were called to the scene and the fire was extinguished within two hours.
“We will assess the damage today and update as we receive further information.
“We would like to thank the public for reporting the incident and the quick response of firefighters who brought the fire under control to prevent further damage.”
