Former England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson’s family recently sold his luxury mansion at a reduced price to pay off large debts.
Sven-Goran Eriksson’s family was forced to sell their mansion to pay off debts. The former England manager owed more than £7 million in UK tax.
Eriksson passed away last August from pancreatic cancer at the age of 76, and the football world paid tribute to the iconic manager. While Erickson’s family has had to come to terms with his death, they have also had to sell assets, including his memorabilia, to raise funds.
This brings us to the sale of a seven-bedroom property in Värmland. Mr Erickson bought the house in 2002 for £4.5 million, but it was recently sold for a fraction of that price.
The Sun reports that the family originally listed the house for £2 million, but later cut the asking price by a quarter. The exact price is unknown, but it was reportedly sold for at least £1.3 million, a loss of £3 million compared to what Ericsson paid more than 20 years ago.
This property is located near the Norwegian border and offers beautiful views. Here, Mirror Football takes a peek inside Erickson’s luxurious home.

The Varmland mansion offers beautiful views of Sweden. The new owners of Erickson’s former home explained what led them to purchase the property.
“Of course I thought it was great, but it wasn’t yet clear to me whether I would buy it when it went on sale,” they explained. “It felt like a big project and a big responsibility.
“But the opportunity to manage part of Värmland’s cultural heritage and enjoy its stunning environment at the same time was ultimately appealing.”
If you look at this house from the air, you will see that it is located near the water and surrounded by trees. This mansion features a grand entrance with a stunning wooden staircase that curves to the second floor.
There is a comfortable living room with a fireplace and wooden furniture. This room is connected to another living room and has plenty of natural light from the large windows throughout the property.
The dining room offers stunning views through four large windows, allowing family and guests to enjoy the idyllic location while dining. A chandelier hangs above the large wooden dining table, creating an aesthetic that blends in with the living room.
The kitchen is spacious and can prepare meals for a large number of people. The kitchen island is the focal point of the room and serves as a base for those who cook and prepare food.
The seven-bed property also has an elegant bathroom. Smooth gray tiled floors lead to steps to the bathtub, where the sink is recessed into a handsome wooden unit.
On the entertainment side, the mansion has a games room with a snooker table. The property also has an indoor swimming pool with a seating area and TV where you can relax.
Eriksson had a storied career as a manager, winning trophies with IFK Gothenburg, Benfica, Roma, Sampdoria and Lazio. He was appointed England manager in 2001 and has also held positions in English football with Manchester City, Leicester City and Notts County.
