Barcelona have the option to sign Marcus Rashford permanently for £26m at the end of this season, with the Manchester United star currently on season-long loan.
Barcelona sporting director Deco has revealed that the club has no plans to make a new contract in January, suggesting that all business for 2026 will be completed next summer. Barça have added just three players to the first team this year, including Marcus Rashford.
The La Liga champions signed Rashford, 28, on a season-long loan from Manchester United. During negotiations, Barcelona inserted an option to sign him on a permanent transfer at the end of this season for 30 million euros (approximately 2.6 billion yen).
So far, the England international has encouraged Barça’s bosses that he is worth it. Rashford has scored six goals and provided five assists in 15 appearances, most of them coming from the left flank.
However, given the precarious financial situation, the Catalan giants will wait and watch the season before making a decision. As such, Deco currently has no plans for January.
“If we’re on track and there are no surprises, I don’t think there’s a need for that,” Deco said at an event on Friday when Barcelona held a public training session at the newly renovated but still under construction Camp Nou.

Hansi Flick’s side have won just three of their last seven games since the start of October. “We know exactly where we need to improve and the difficulties we will face. We went through some difficult times last season as well, but we were able to overcome them,” Deco added.
“If we reduce the intensity, we suffer. We need to have the best players. There are no excuses, but if you can’t make substitutions due to injury and it affects the midfield. Even if we win, there are things we need to improve on.”
Flick believes the on-loan Rashford can further contribute to Barça’s progress this season, having scored in last weekend’s 3-1 home win over Elche. “One or two more goals would be good for him too, seeing as he has the chances,” Flick explained.

“But, of course, we can be happy with him. I’m very happy with him. He can play at this level and I’m happy to show that. He’s a very important player for the fans, for the club and for his teammates.”
Rashford will be hoping to increase his goal tally when Barca face Celta Vigo on Sunday. The 28-year-old has previously scored at Celta’s stadium, the Estadio de Balaidos. In the first leg of the 2017 Europa League semi-final, Rashford scored a stunning free-kick to give United a 1-0 win.
