Slovenian manager Majaz Kek has vented his frustration at Manchester United’s apparent lack of communication regarding Benjamin Sesko’s knee injury. The 22-year-old was forced to withdraw during United’s 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur and will not be part of the Slovenian national team on international duty.
Slovenia are scheduled to play Kosovo and Sweden in their final two World Cup qualifying matches, but they will have to do so without Sesco. Kek maintains that the details of Sesko’s injuries are still unknown. In a statement carried by Epica newspaper, the national team’s head coach said: “I salute a big club like Manchester United.
“We haven’t received anything officially yet. No paper, no documents, nothing. We would love to receive it and we also want the player to be tested by our medical services.”
“Our doctors are experts in this field and there is no one else in this position. I cannot comment, but of course I have certain information and I have been in touch with Beni.”
“But I can’t say anything because we don’t know anything officially. United haven’t contacted anyone in camp. Of course I’m worried about the player, but my only concern is his health. We’re ready to do everything for that and we wouldn’t have sent anyone out on the field if there was any risk.”
“But the national team is very special and I expect the utmost respect from everyone. Slovenia deserves it, even if there is a superpower like England on the other side and something as exceptional as the Premier League.”
Sesco was seen limping off the pitch at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday, sparking concerns about his fitness. Asked about Sesko’s condition at a press conference, Ruben Amorim said: “We need to check. There was something in his knee so let’s see.”
When asked to further elaborate on the severity of the injury, Amorim confessed: “I don’t know. It’s my knee, so I’ll never know.”
According to the Manchester Evening News, Sesco will undergo further tests at Carrington this week, but officials suggest his injury is not believed to be serious.
