Norwegian Benfica player Andreas Schjelderup has confirmed that he has been charged by Danish police with sharing an illegal video with a minor.
Norway’s Andreas Schjelderup has confirmed that he has been charged by Danish police with sharing an illegal video with a minor. Schjerderup is a teammate of Erling Haaland and Martin Odegaard in the country’s national team.
Schelderup, 21, says what he did as a teenager two years ago was a “stupid mistake” and that he takes full responsibility for sharing what was reported to be sexual material with a minor and must now face the consequences. The former player from Danish club Nordsjælland claims he was contacted by police earlier this year and cooperated with them in the process.
He noted that they had been charged with this crime, adding that they would likely be convicted and given a suspended sentence in the near future. Schjerderup released a lengthy statement on his Instagram Story late Saturday night.

It reads: “Hello everyone. I would like to open up to you all about a stupid mistake I made about two years ago. I was 19 years old at the time and now I have to face the consequences of this mistake.
“I take full responsibility for what happened and what I did, but it’s important to me that you know the context of the episode.
“I was living in Denmark at the time. I received a short video and without thinking twice I forwarded it to a friend a few seconds later.
“We’ve always sent each other memes, as many teenagers do, and when I received and forwarded this video, as always, I didn’t think it was any different.
“I only saw the first few seconds and didn’t see the video unfold. A friend of mine saw it a few seconds later and directly warned me that it was, of course, illegal to send it, so I deleted it right away.
“Unfortunately, at that moment, I wasn’t thinking about the consequences of sharing it and how it would be illegal. I should have realized the seriousness of sending it, but I didn’t at the time.
“My only explanation is that I was really shocked to see what appeared to be two young men on an old quality video and sent it to a friend without thinking. My intention was never to spread anything or cause any harm to anyone involved. It was a stupid one-time mistake and I deeply regret it.”
“When Danish police contacted me this year about what happened, I told them the truth and have cooperated throughout the process. I have been charged with this crime and will probably be found guilty in the near future and probably receive a suspended sentence.”
“I have no excuses. What I did in Denmark at that time was illegal and should not be tolerated.
“I take full responsibility for it, and I hope that my mistakes won’t cause others to make the same mistakes after hearing or reading my story. I hope they think clearly when they receive something they shouldn’t have shared.”
“First and foremost, I would like to apologize to those affected by the video, then to my friends, family, employer, country, and all the fans I let down.
“Right now, I wish I could go back in time and correct my mistakes. I’ve never done anything illegal or been involved with the police before, so I was in shock for a long time while all this was going on.
“But here we are. I made a mistake and am ready to face the consequences. The crime I will be convicted of does not reflect who I am as a person and what I stand for.
“I am truly sorry for my mistake and am ashamed that I found myself in this situation. Everyone who knows me also knows what I stand for, so I understand that this is a shock to many.
“I also know that this will be an unnecessary hindrance to the Norwegian national team ahead of the most important match in Norway’s history. I had intended to share this after the match to avoid that, but unfortunately that is no longer possible.”
“And everyone, please do not watch or spread videos that contain harmful or offensive content. This is illegal. I would like to apologize once again and hope you can forgive me. And I will do everything I can to make things right again.”
