Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur played out a dramatic 2-2 draw in North London on Saturday afternoon, but Alan Shearer was far from satisfied with both teams’ performances.
Manager Alan Shearer accused Manchester United and Tottenham of playing “poor” matches that “lacked quality”. The two teams met at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday afternoon, ending in a dramatic draw.
Red Devils star Brian Mbeumo gave his team the lead in the first half, before Matthijs Tell and Richarlison looked to have sealed Tottenham’s three points in the second half. However, Matthijs de Ligt secured a share of the points with a superb header in stoppage time.
Despite the drama, Shearer wasn’t particularly satisfied with the performances of either side. The former Newcastle star said on Match of the Day: “A draw was probably a reasonable result in the end, but the standard of football was quite low for both teams.”
“The substitutes brought about change for Spurs, but not for Manchester United. It certainly didn’t help that Benjamin Sesco’s injury meant the visitors were down to 10 men.”
“But there was a lack of quality, especially from both teams who could have been second in the league if they had won today.”

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim delivered his verdict on the match immediately after the final whistle, insisting his team should have actually won. He said: “During the game we felt we could take home the three points.
“But with everything that happened after that, Harry Maguire and Casemiro were sent off, we conceded two goals… we scored again and that was the point.
“When you don’t win, you don’t lose. Once again we accomplished that. Today was the day to win this game, so we have a lot to grow as a team.

“We need to look at ourselves. We weren’t pressing with the same intensity and we felt comfortable, but we need to understand that with more courage we could have finished the game. But sometimes things like this happen. The first half is better than the second half. We believe in our ability to score until the last moment.”
Saturday’s draw leaves Spurs third in the table heading into the November international break, although they could have moved ahead of Manchester City had they kept winning. United, on the other hand, have bounced back from a poor start to the season and sit in seventh place.
Amorim’s side will return to competitive action for the first time in two weeks when they host Everton at Old Trafford. Spurs’ next assignment will be against north London rivals Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.
