England play their final two World Cup qualifiers next week, but there are big doubts over Marc Guehi’s departure after Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner revealed the defender is currently on crutches.
Marc Gehi’s appearance in England’s double-header against Serbia and Albania is doubtful after manager Oliver Glasner revealed the Crystal Palace captain was having “difficulty walking” due to a foot injury.
The 25-year-old England centre-half has established himself as a key figure in the national team after helping the Three Lions reach the Euro 2024 final and was among the names selected by manager Thomas Tuchel for this month’s games. However, Gehi’s problems in Palace’s Europa Conference League game against Alkmaar mean he may not be available for England’s final World Cup qualifier.
He missed the Crystal Palace squad at the weekend and Glasner confirmed his star defender is currently unable to walk following an accident on the Eagles’ recent away trip.

“Marc got fouled in the last minute against Alkmaar. He hit his leg. It was a bone bruise,” Glasner told Sky Sports just before Palace’s game against arch-rivals Brighton on Sunday.
“He can’t even walk right now. He’s been on crutches for the last two days. We don’t know how the situation will develop over the next few days. But at the moment it doesn’t look good and he doesn’t look like he’ll be able to play for England.”
Despite constant speculation over his future after his move to Liverpool collapsed in the final hours of the summer transfer window, Gehi has impressed in an England shirt this season. Rumors of a move to Anfield continue to exist even after it was revealed that he would not consider extending his contract with Palace, which expires at the end of the 2025-26 season.
After Guehi scored his first England goal in a 5-0 win over Serbia, manager Tuchel praised the player’s professionalism, saying: “This is an example of how the players spent this camp, and that’s exactly what they did. They put personal interests aside.”
“He was the best team-mate possible and gave a great performance. He is a very strong player for Crystal Palace and he showed that on the pitch today.”
England have already booked a spot at next year’s World Cup. They host Serbia on Thursday night before heading to Albania for the final game of their qualifying campaign on Sunday.
