Papis Cissé had an eventful morning for Wythenshawe Betts in the Cheshire Veterans Football League.
Former Newcastle United striker Papis Cissé went from zero to hero on Sunday as he scored six goals in Wythenshawe FC’s over-35s 13-0 win over South Liverpool. The former Premier League talisman is part of a star-studded veteran side in the Cheshire Veterans Football League who have dominated their opponents and this weekend was no different.
Cissé saved the penalty, but his follow was hit on the post by the South goalkeeper. From a follow-up corner, the 32-game Senegalese international crossed the floor for a goal kick.
But he atoneed for a nightmare 30 seconds with a double hat-trick in the second half of Sunday’s clash in Greater Manchester.

Reporters gathered at Hollyhedge Park to watch Wythenshawe take on South Liverpool in the summit clash. They saw the worst and best parts of the 40-year-old.
The Telegraph’s James Ducker tweeted: “An unexpected turn of events in the Sunday League Veterans game…former Newcastle and Senegal striker Papis Cissé misses a penalty and goes straight for a corner.”
However, in the second half he changed his style, scoring six goals and winning the match beyond reasonable doubt.
In doing so, he showed what Premier League quality looks like with an incredible chip to extend his lead.
After the exhibition, the exhibitors rushed to sign autographs and take photos, receiving praise from those in attendance.
It’s the latest in a slew of goals for a veteran team making headlines. This season, they dispatched AFC Monton, Radcliffe Old Boys, and University Old Boys with records of 7-1, 10-1, and 6-2, respectively.
Cisse scored six goals in Liverpool’s rout of old school side College, while Wythenshawe had the likes of Joleon Lescott, George Boyd and Stephen Ireland on the scoresheet in an impressive start to the season.
Their book features a number of Premier League icons signed including Emile Heskey, Danny Drinkwater, Maynor Figueroa and Oumar Niasse.
“Over 35 seconds, I’m a striker and yesterday I did a 10k (game running stat),” Lescott previously said on All Out Football’s In the Mixer podcast.
“To be fair, the two Poachers goals were where I saw danger and the other one where I made a mistake. For this level, I was able to press pretty hard and the defender went to pass back and took a short shot so I got around the goalkeeper.”
“It’s fun just running around.”
