Koby Mainu’s future at Old Trafford is currently in big doubt with his options limited under Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim, with Serie A side Napoli hoping to sign him.
Manager Scott McTominay is trying to persuade Napoli to rescue Coby Mainu from Manchester United. The Red Devils academy graduate has endured a tough period under Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford.
He was a key player under former manager Erik ten Hag, but fell down the pecking order under the Portuguese head coach. And it led to suggestions that he could soon quit his boyhood club.
Italian giants Napoli have also been linked with a similar move in 2023, with former United teammate Scott McTominay also interested in making a swoop, The Sun reports.
“Scott went to[Antonio]Conte and told him to sign Coby. He told him all about his strengths and how good a player he is,” a source said.

“He knows everything about himself from his time at United and we think he will be a great addition to the team, whether on loan or on a permanent contract.
“Coby attended the academy from an early age and was brought up correctly at United. He will adapt quickly and give Napoli momentum.”
McTominay’s attempt to move Mainu to Napoli came amid claims by Dimitar Berbatov that Amorim’s treatment of the midfielder was “really cruel”. “It’s a very tough situation, especially for young players,” he told the Daily Mail.
“It just goes to show you that football can be a really cruel game sometimes. Koby Mainu was playing, he got to the England team, he went up and up and then all of a sudden he’s not being picked.”

“The question now is: will he be positive, patient and wait for his chance again? Or will he need to move elsewhere to play regularly, regain his confidence and return to United to start playing more regularly?”
“I want to see him play, because the talent is there. That determination, that composure and arrogance that you need with the ball at his feet, even at his age, is there. I like that. But at the moment, the manager hasn’t found something that he can use from the first moment of the game.”
Mainu, 20, has made 80 appearances for United since joining United in 2022, scoring seven goals. He appeared in eight more games this season, but only started in one of them. Mainu has less than two years left on his contract with United.
