Barcelona have not played at Camp Nou since May 2023, but the La Liga champions are finally close to returning to the iconic stadium following a £1.25bn renovation.
Barcelona have announced when their star players will finally return to Camp Nou after more than two-and-a-half years apart. Barça’s most recent match at this iconic stadium took place in May 2023, with the club originally scheduled to return last November.
The La Liga champions have made the city’s Olympic Stadium in the Montjuïc area their temporary home for the 2023-24 season. However, after repeated setbacks, coach Hansi Flick’s side ended up playing all of their games there last term.
Barcelona’s return has been postponed four times, most recently to September after playing their first three league games away. Now, after 30 months of waiting and spending worth £1.25bn, Barça are on their way home.
The club has announced that a public training session will be held at the Camp Nou, which is still under construction, this Friday, giving fans the first opportunity to see the new stadium in use. Barça say the 105,000-seat arena is still unfinished, meaning capacity will be limited to just 23,000.
Spanish newspaper Marca reports that Barcelona’s leaders are hoping Sunday’s 3-1 win over Elche will be their final La Liga match at Montjuic. Club officials hope that Sunday, November 22nd against Athletic Bilbao will be his long-awaited first match back at Camp Nou.

In addition, Barcelona is expected to receive permission from the local parliament next week to allow 45,000 spectators. The club’s board agreed that a move to Camp Nou would only take place if capacity was secured.
However, it is unclear whether Marcus Rashford and others will play Champions League matches at Camp Nou. Barça started their league campaign at the Olympic Stadium, but are likely to stay there until January for their European tour.

Barcelona hope that UEFA will allow them to use Camp Nou if they reach the play-offs or knockout stages. This is an exemption from UEFA’s regulation that clubs must only use one ground per season in the same competition.
The report states that Barça’s board was open to the changes during talks earlier this year and is confident that UEFA will accept the request. However, we cannot guarantee it yet.
