The Football Association (FA) has responded after a Crystal Palace fan put up a banner depicting Evangelos Marinakis holding a gun to Morgan Gibbs-White’s head.
Crystal Palace were accused of misconduct by the Football Association (FA) after fans put up a giant banner about Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis before a Premier League match in August.
Tensions between Palace and Forest have been high all summer after the two sides clashed for a spot in this season’s Europa League. UEFA ultimately ruled that Forest would qualify for the second division competition at the expense of Palace, who were left out due to former co-owner John Texter’s involvement with Lyon.
Marinakis did not play in the match, which ended 1-1, but supporters made their feelings known. Indeed, fans at Selhurst Park’s Holmesdale End held up a banner depicting Marinakis holding a gun to the head of Morgan Gibbs-White, who was due to leave for Tottenham before making a U-turn to agree a new contract.

The FA said in a statement: “Crystal Palace FC have been charged with misconduct in connection with the Premier League match against Nottingham Forest FC on Sunday 24th August.
“The club is said to have failed to check whether spectators or supporters (and anyone claiming to be a supporter or supporter) behaved in an inappropriate, offensive, abusive, insulting or provocative manner during matches. Crystal Palace FC has until Tuesday 11 November to respond.”
Palace had won the FA Cup in May, defeating Manchester City, and had qualified for the Europa League. However, Oliver Glasner’s side were subsequently excluded from competition due to former co-owner Textor retaining control of Ligue 1 side Lyon.
UEFA’s decision that Mr Texter retains control of the two Europa League clubs comes after a protracted uproar, with Mr Marinakis reportedly writing to the governing body expressing concerns about Palace’s ownership.
Forest were the first to benefit from Palace’s exclusion after finishing seventh in the Premier League and qualifying for the Conference League.
After being relegated to the third tier of European football, Palace appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport but were unable to overturn the decision and had to settle in order to qualify for the Conference League. Meanwhile, Forest secured promotion to the Europa League at the last minute.
The Eagles went 1-1 in league phase games after reaching the conference league stage by defeating Fredrikstad. They beat Dynamo Kyiv 2-0, but lost 1-0 to Cypriot side AEK Larnaca late last month.
Forest have picked up four points from their opening three games in the Europa League this season. They traveled to Real Betis and drew 2-2, but lost 3-2 at home to Danish side Midtjylland, before scoring a long-awaited 2-0 win against Porto in Sean Dyche’s first game as manager.
