Sinner would be familiar with how to fine-tune his training routine early in his career and prepare ahead of a match. And apparently his sleeping habits give him an edge.
The 24-year-old appeared at the Nike for Jannik Sinner event in Turin ahead of the ATP Finals and answered a series of questions.
“Honestly, I can sleep before every game. I wake up about 45 minutes before a game, which is lucky for me because a lot of people have a hard time falling asleep. But if I have time, I warm up, eat, go back to sleep, and then play.”
Sinner seems to be taking a cue from Cristiano Ronaldo’s book, with the former Manchester United and Real Madrid footballer also relying on sleep to stay at the top of his game.
The Sun reports that rather than sleeping through the night, Ronaldo takes five naps a day, with each break lasting an hour and a half.
After dinner, Ronaldo likes to relax with friends before going for a swim at 10 p.m. Then I take a nap before midnight and wake up again. And at 3 a.m., the 40-year-old hits his pillow again, waking up and starting his day.
Ronaldo spoke about his sleep habits on a podcast over the summer, insisting that optimal rest is “the most important means of physical and mental recovery.”
Sinner will be competing in the ATP Finals this weekend, where he was drawn into the Bjorn Borg group.
He is scheduled to face Alexander Zverev and Ben Shelton. His third opponent will be either Felix Auger-Aliassime or Lorenzo Musetti, with the latter only qualifying at the Canadian’s expense if he wins the Greek Championship in Greece.
The ATP Finals will take place next Sunday, and Sinner will clash with Alcaraz in a highly anticipated match.
