Manchester United have sanctioned the end of Andre Onana’s loan as he heads to Turkey in the summer, but the former player believes he may not be able to return as Senne Lamence arrives and has impressed.
Former Manchester United star Lee Sharp believes we have seen the end of goalkeeper Andre Onana, who is currently on loan after two underwhelming seasons at Old Trafford.
Onana had high expectations as he had just reached the Champions League final with Inter Milan, but during his time with the Red Devils he was constantly making mistakes and mistakes that led directly to goals.
After much buzz in the summer about his possible departure, he ultimately left, but only after the Premier League transfer window had closed. He headed to Turkey to join Trabzonspor, who agreed to pay his full wages, and United have since continued negotiations with Senne Ramens.
The young Belgian was signed in the summer and impressed immensely upon his arrival, keeping a clean sheet on his debut and bringing calm to the backline, making Sharpe adamant to appoint him as Onana’s replacement.
The former United star told Adventure Gamers: “I would be very surprised if Andre Onana came back to the club after leaving on loan in the summer. Senne Lamence seems to have made the position his own now. I don’t think Onana wants to come back and play second fiddle. I think we’ve seen the end of Onana at Old Trafford.”

Onana has previously been defiant about his qualifications, often pointing to his history of success as evidence of his skill set. However, he was sidelined by coach Ruben Amorim last season and missed the start of the season due to a summer injury.
Altai Bindir came on and struggled, Onana was recalled after the shock loss to Grimsby and again made a mistake, but Lamence looked much more confident between the sticks. He was part of the team that recently won at Liverpool and Sharpe likened him to two of the club’s great modern-day shot-stoppers.
“Senne Lamence has already made some great saves for Manchester United and looks very calm. I’ve seen some comparisons with Peter Schmeichel and Peter is far from calm! I see similarities between the two in the shot-stopping category, and also in the way he commands in the box, he’s not afraid to come for the cross, just like Peter.”
“In fact, I think Peter and Edwin van der Sar have a combination of similarities with Rammens. He has Edwin’s poise and presence, but Peter’s shot-stopping and goalkeeping prowess. I hope this is not a temporary thing for him and Manchester United and that this continues.”
