Liverpool manager Arne Slott has provided an update on the condition of star striker Alexander Isak ahead of the Reds’ Premier League game against Manchester City this weekend.
Alexander Isak is expected to return to training with Liverpool on Friday ahead of the Reds’ clash with Manchester City. Arne Slott has confirmed that the Swedish striker will return to the team, but warned that he needs time to be at his best.
Isak has endured a tough period since making his UK-record move to Anfield, but it appears he has suffered a turbulent pre-season at Newcastle United. The striker did not take part in Magpies training until the transfer was completed.
The 26-year-old missed Liverpool’s win against Eintracht Frankfurt and missed four games as a result. However, Isak was named in Graham Potter’s Sweden squad for the international break.
Slott had already hinted at a press conference earlier this week that Isak would not be in a position to start against City on Sunday. The Dutchman has now given further clarity on the return of his players.
Slott said on Friday: “He will be training with the team again for the first time today after being out for three weeks.

“I know I said three weeks ago that his preseason is over and now it’s time to see how he’s doing. But I have to go back on those words because just three weeks of rehab is not going to get him back to the level he was three weeks ago.”
“But our rehabilitation team is doing a great job. But you can’t compare rehabilitation to a football match or a training session with the team. Even if we try to recreate that, it’s not possible. So I have to say it again, give him some time.”
Slott also provided an update on Scotland international Andy Robertson. The full-back was substituted in the dying moments of Liverpool’s win over Real Madrid.
Liverpool’s head coach sought to offer the experienced defender a late break after a busy spell. Robertson’s condition at City will be monitored.
“Robbo started against Palace, so he started three games in seven days,” Slott explained. “We had to take him off towards the end. He felt tired, but we’ll see how he is today.”
“I was very happy to see him play close to 90 in his last game,” Slott added. “It’s tough to play three games in seven days.
“It’s very beneficial for every individual for the team to play its best. That’s what I think we’ve been able to do the last few days. He was calm on the ball and did his job defensively as well.”
There was also a lot of news about Alisson Becker and Jeremy Frimpong’s recovery. Mr Slott was asked if he would be able to return after his international break.
“I’m hoping that Alison, as well as Jeremy, will be back after the international break, because we play from November to March!” Slott said.
“But while we don’t expect Jeremy to be a perfect fit for Forest, we do expect that with Alisson.”
