Liverpool defeated Real Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday night, just days after defeating Aston Villa in the Premier League. Arne Slott is backed by Alan Shearer
Alan Shearer has praised Arn Slott’s team selection for sparking last week’s winning streak. Following last weekend’s Premier League victory over Aston Villa, the Reds defeated Real Madrid in the Champions League in midweek.
Until then, Liverpool had suffered four consecutive defeats in the Premier League and had fallen to seventh place in the table. Victory against Villa moves the Reds into third place ahead of their clash with Manchester City on Sunday afternoon.
The trip to the Etihad Stadium will be Liverpool’s last game of the calendar year before the November international break. The Reds won 2-0 on their last visit last season and will be hoping to extend their winning streak with another win in Manchester.

Liverpool won against Villa and Real in the Carabao Cup after the Reds lost 3-0 to Crystal Palace.
The defeat led to criticism of Slott’s fourth-round selection, but Shearer insisted the two recent wins justified Liverpool’s head coach’s decision.
“It was a big ask to rest the players for the League Cup game against Crystal Palace, but we made this decision because manager Arne Slott felt the players needed to be rested and we needed to respond to the games against Aston Villa and Real Madrid,” Shearer said in an interview with Betfair.
“He won two of those games, so it was justified. They would have still wanted to remain in the competition, but the main target is the Premier League and the Champions League.”
“It wasn’t great against Aston Villa, but we definitely improved and it was enough to get the three points that lead to the game against Real Madrid.
“There was a great atmosphere at Anfield on Tuesday night. I was lucky enough to be co-commentary there and I immediately felt that Liverpool were going to be up there.”
“In the first minute or two, their energy, their aggression, their pressing was really good. Without a doubt, it was Liverpool’s best performance of the season. Every player was giving their all, even Florian Wirths on the left, which was a big request from Slott to remove[Cody]Gakpo.”
“There were several candidates for Man of the Match, but Conor Bradley was definitely the standout for me.
“If you consider the opponent, he never gave Vinicius Junior a kick. He not only defended really well, but also attacked well. Vinicius had no answers. He was outstanding.”
