Gary Neville believes only one team can stop Arsenal from winning the Premier League this season and the Gunners are hoping to finally get their hands on silver.
Gary Neville believes only Liverpool can stop Arsenal from winning the Premier League this season. Arne Slott’s side finally ended a dismal run of five consecutive defeats in the top flight at the weekend, but are still seven points behind the Gunners.
While this difference may seem large, history shows teams have bounced back from much worse positions. Manchester City regained an eight-point deficit and won the championship after 28 games in the 2022/23 season and 17 games in the 2023/24 season.
The most notable comeback was Arsenal’s own achievement in the 1997/98 season, when they overturned Manchester United’s 13-point deficit to win the trophy after 19 games. Discussing this season’s title race on NBC Sports, Neville gave his assessment.

The former United defender said: “Look, Arsenal could lose the title from here. I can understand why Mikel Arteta, the Arsenal players and even the fans would discount the idea that we have to win the title this season.”
“But they are the most consistent team and have grown to this point over three or four seasons now. In fact, I had hinted at them winning the title the last three seasons, but they clearly fell short.”
“When Liverpool won last season, I thought they should have been there because I thought if Man City went down, Arsenal had to be the team to do it.
“Not many people are going to make excuses for Arsenal this season and it’s not that I’m putting any pressure on them. I just think they’re the best team in the league and they’ve got the right squad.”
“It’s strange to say that they should win the league from now on because it’s only November, but they should and you don’t have to be Mikel Arteta or an Arsenal player to say that with confidence.”
Neville added: “When I say I’m confident Arsenal will win the league, it’s because you always think about what can stop a team. If Liverpool had lost Virgil van Dijk or Mohamed Salah last season, they would have been in trouble.”
“But I can’t think of any players Arsenal could lose at the moment and that would mean they lose the title…even the two centre-backs due to summer signings. All positions are covered.”
“Previously Bukayo Saka was that player, but Noni Madueke came in during injury. Wherever they are, they have doubled properly at the same level or a slight drop. So who will take them?”
“For Arsenal not to win, they will have to win against themselves. I don’t think Man City will go back to their previous level and come back to Arsenal.
“Posep Guardiola is a genius, but he hasn’t been able to get his players and his team to play at the level they need. Liverpool are the only team, but they have to get back on track quickly.”
