Newcastle suffered their fourth defeat of the season when they lost to West Ham United at the London Stadium on Sunday, leaving manager Eddie Howe understandably furious.
Eddie Howe slammed his “unrecognizable” team against West Ham, claiming they could have substituted everyone. The Magpies suffered their fourth league defeat of the season at the London Stadium on Sunday.
Indeed, Howe’s side got off to a dream start thanks to Jacob Murphy, but Lucas Paqueta’s superb strike drew West Ham level. Sven Botman’s own goal just before half-time turned the game on its head, and Tomas Soucek added another late on.
Howe was understandably furious when he heard the final whistle, claiming he did not notice the players on the pitch. he said: “The dynamism wasn’t there.
“We lacked physicality and energy. We could have scored early and grabbed the game, but we just couldn’t do it and ran away.
“It didn’t look like the Newcastle teams we’ve seen in the last few seasons. The body language, the cohesive spirit on the pitch, a lot of little things weren’t there. It was a byproduct of us not being where we needed to be mentally.”

Meanwhile, Howe also claimed that he could have substituted any of the players on the pitch. Furthermore, he added: “I could have taken anyone off.
“It reflects where we are at that stage of the game. It’s very rare for me to feel that way. I don’t think I’ve felt that way since I’ve been manager of Newcastle.”
Newcastle’s latest defeat leaves them 13th in the Premier League with just 12 points after 10 games. They will look to get back to winning ways when they face Athletic Bilbao in the Champions League on Wednesday, ahead of their away trip to Brentford.
Howe wasn’t the only one uninspired by Newcastle’s performance. Gary Neville also claimed that the players had let their manager down with their play.

“They really pissed me off. I think it was probably 20 minutes left in the first half, but certainly in the second half, they didn’t shoot for a long period of the game.
“I thought they really let the manager down. The manager is a great manager. He’s had a great run, but they have a lot of work to do. They’re a great manager.”
“The real difference between the top and the bottom is big in some ways, but if you don’t put in the effort or let your actual intensity go down, you’re going to get caught pretty quickly in this league.
“And today they turned out unbelievable, Newcastle. I thought they were lethargic and leggy and I thought their attitude towards that game was really terrible.”
